I'll Show up with a handful of VHS tapes to movie night. That’s me.

Invited to come play video games and I bring a couple rolls of quarters.

Hours I’ll spend meticulously putting together a mixtape on cassette, with handwritten song titles and artists.

Roadtrip photos on Polaroids strewn across my dashboard and a few rolls I’m still waiting to get developed.

Am I nostalgic, traditional, maybe even obsolete? Perhaps. It’s just everything in this disposable age is becoming much more convenient and much less human. We’ve traded physical for virtual. It breaks my heart a little bit more every day, every emoji, every selfie.

PS I’ve saved those quarters, and whenever I come across a pay phone, I’ll call you. We can listen to each other’s voice, breathing and hear each other’s laugh, save each other one brief human moment at a time.

    Quoting aliljaded:
I cannot tell you all how much I love to hold a picture in my hand. When my kids were little I was into photography, I took thousands of photos of them. I was going through them just the other day looking for a series of black and white (imagine that!) photos I took. I was literally in tears looking through all the memories of the past 30 years. There's a game we play when we go out to dinner, everyone piles their phones on top of each other in the center of the table and the first person to look at their phone during dinner pays for the entire meal.
I feel the same way about pictures.

What has technology really gotten us? Is that at the heart here or am I reading into your words?

I couldn't agree more, don't get me wrong everyone loves convenience but now people are just getting too lazy and STUIPID! Drives me nuts to watch two people sitting at a table together not talking and both typing away on their phones. Makes me think if they are texting to each other telling each other just how much they want to make them cum! hahahaha.

Swings and roundabouts I guess. I still use a camera with fil in sometimes but in my late teens and through my 20's I DJ'd, I would carry my own body weight in vinyl in and out of venues and I've never been a small guy. Now I can fit all my tunes on something the size of a cigarette packet. Handy when it never leaves the home

After my seperation and divorce I downsized from a 5 bed rural property to a much smaller inner city flat, that does help me appreciate the digital world, books, movies, pictures....

I don't miss audio and video tapes at all. Or vinyl. Or old cameras.

It's not that I embrace everything new just because it's new, but I prefer convenience.

Now telephones were never to my liking, so I enjoy being able to reply in writing to messages I receive, taking my own sweet time.

But, in spite of being a bit reclusive, I do enjoy face to face meetings with special people.
