What I have always thought and said.....

Power should be divided equally between partners. That means each person preserves their individuality and feels free to express themselves knowing they have space where even divergent views and opinions are met with tolerance and respect. The health of any relationship (not just romantic) is defined by the presence of reciprocity, equality, and a continuous flow of energy within the dynamic.

Too many people confuse authority with power. One NEVER can give up their personal power. They can only delegate authority to another. Likewise, consent is ongoing. The polarization of authority is control and surrender. Talk all you want, but HONEST communication first requires one to be honest to themself. This is all true and on point and reinforces two things I keep telling myself and Subs: 1) This is a relationship between people - human beings - and must be treated with appropriate respect; and 2) Clear and consistent communication is not just a good idea - which it is - it is essential.
