Not sure what the mechanism is . "It is counting the days!". A yogi master exclaimed. About how an insect may sleep to awaken 17 years later ready to breed. Did something happen long ago to cause this? A Winter that started and did not stop for 17 years? I know of frogs that stayed entombed many feet under the ground for years waiting for rain to coax them out. Ants that have a sack of sweet stuff they'd gathered to weather out the conditions above. Clues are all around us, that the most adaptive will use to survive. Now as we prepared to escape the terrors that are mentioned in the back of a book I made a promptu salute for those who could not escape. Then we bundled our last remaining items into the ship and with the flick of a switch we could hear the turbine pick up speed and the craft would gradually disappear into the ether. Then into world that had no time stamp we took a short cut through the corridors that separated the intervening dimensions. Hues of colors flashed by the small windows, and the length of a life seemed a petty thing compared to how we were charging right through vaults of time. The time circuits were anchored to move about the proximity of the planet, and we may emerge in a cloud slipstream, over a preposterous scene where a species or many had taken the long way to get there. It was exciting to think about what we may find. A cloudy place perhaps that is drenched with moisture that allowed a species that loved the rain to rest languidly in its marsh, and fill the night air with its song. But then a crash and a knock as the craft seemed to strike turbulence and the turbines began to slow down. Light appeared through the windows and this time the greyness of clouds could be seen and the craft soon settled down upon the Earth ! Imagine my surprise when I found out that my opinion actually mattered! |
