Defund the cops means defunding them senator harris

I love how senator harris trys this feel good spin defunding the police..

She talks of putting more money into communitites..more money for housing..more money for education, mental health etc..

Without mentioning where this money is gonna come from..

But yahoo answered that in their article on camden new jersey..the quaint lil city where defunding the police supposively " worked".

Now let me preface this by saying...yeah if your police force is so corrupt it resembles a batman comic..

Then im in favor of change.

But camden did this by literally busting the police union...im not slanting this or throwing shade...it stated it in todays yahoo article.

Funny i never imagined liberals being in favor of union busting...but hey nancy pelosi does resemble montegomery burns. Nancy p is all in favor of defunding the police.

So what happened next.. yeah without a union the wages for officers sank.

The city hired some of the old force back for pennies on the pound and then started this community police force filled with newbies.

Answer me this..if this saves so much money, they why dont we do it the firefighters and their union or city services.

Couldnt we have a community based fire dept and road crews..just imagine the money tax payers could save.

Sure its fine and dandy you have feel good community policing...rookies are requirred walk the neighborhoods and go door door introducing themselves..

But they are putting their lives the line for half the ..only an idiot would be a become a cop. It probably is one of the most dangerious jobs in this country.
Its as stupid as being a prison guard and making bucks an hr in kansas.

So lets agree you got rid of corrupt cops in favor of really inexperienced ones that wont put their lives on the line because..well no union and they probably are making 20 dollars an hr.

Dont know about you but im not breaking up a bar fight or getting into gang shoot out for that type of money. Im most likely to just sit in my squad car and let shit happen.
You want to protest,loot,burn....you be you..im good..

And thats what you'll get..cops arriving after the fact.

And senator harris you can stuff blighted areas with cash until they resemble the country club..
But that doesnt stop crime....rich people use drugs,-,steal,murder,abuse their spouce..

I love how they propose if the scene needs a mental health worker instead of the police...well they intend to send that person...in alone...and somehow that is better policing..and cheaper?...dont know about that

You do realise the person we are talking about has ,mental issues..and probably is violent.

Defunding the police isnt the answer..no matter how much lipstick you put on this pig

so what you want the abuse by the police to continue to wehre they completely ignore peoples rights?
WTF is wrong with you

Matt i didnt say that. I wrote if your police force is that bad then changes need to be made.
You dont get a better police force by cutting wages. You end up getting the wanna be cops( george zimmerman types or cops that dont give a shit and arrive after the danger is gone.
Its no different than cutting wages in any other job..the employees stop caring

We have all volunteer fire departments in the suburban areas, works very well. Maybe not so well in a city.

I think that defunding is a poor choice of words. What's being expressed is that with police costs constituting roughly 1/3 of a city's budget and what seems to me (and others) is a decrease in effective policing, we are not getting our money's worth. How do we apportion limited financial resources to provide for public safety in a cost effective way that is not limited to military style police forces. I decry the militarization of our police so they are trained and believe that they must "control the battlespace" rather than work with their citizens and neighbors. I think it's an attitude by law enforcement fostered by their military equipment and training that is a main contributor to our problems. My father was a policeman when I was growing up and he would stop and talk with the folks when walking a beat, never to my knowledge, had to injure a suspect when arresting them. I have a friend that is a career law enforcement officer (Captain) and he says many of the younger cops think and act like "cowboys" (his word) and are enamored with the power their position gives them and enjoy harassing suspects and innocent citizens alike. Yes , there are plenty of bad actors that need to be prosecuted and an effective police force is necessary. How do we weed out the bad actors within law enforcement and make our police responsive to the needs of the population in a more cost effective way? That's the $64,000 question.

Yes but volunteers are high trained and skilled personal. They are the beer league softball type of guys.

Its bad enough with rural fire depts..just imagine if they had a vol pd..

I honestly dont think it is the police tattics or training...some people are naturally asshat..some are psychotic...and alot of the latter are attracted to the power that comes with being an officer.

Sure alot of the city budget goes to the pd..but have you seen a fd budget? Those fuckers can legally work other firefighters time...and earn 100 grand a year

My point to all of this is senator harris and crew wants to slash the budget of the pd ..
And then use that money for better housing, better education etc.

My response to that is money doesnt change society...if selling crack makes you a shitload of money, then you not gonna work a job at walmart earning 13 an hour.

Having a better education, better housing, better mental health services doesnt mean crime will be reduced.

It just means a big gov hand out..which people will gladly take.

Meanwhile where are the cops when your car gets broken into..in nancy Pelosi san fran the police will not take a report for any property loss under 500 dollars.
So people are breaking into cars left and right.

Nancy Pelosi sits in her mansion eating gormet pints of ice cream while the homeless poop in the streets.

AmericanTiger11 has good points. I'm looking at a City job that of course is Union. The Union bargained for a 2% annual raise for the next 5 years. However, the Union gets 1.5% of the wages each month, plus fees that they don't bother to give a dollar amount. So, for that 2% annual raise, the worker really only gets 0.5%. How is that working for your members? Out of a $.53 an hour raise, I'd make $.13 of it by the time the Union took that 1.5% they graciously "bargained" for me.

Not to mention, the Union makes agencies discriminate. How? Well, here's how that works. If a job comes open, the agency posts it internally first, by Union contract. The agency has a policy they have to have "x" amount of applicants in order to start interview processes to be considered "equal opportunity". (probably by Federal guidelines). So then the agency has to open it up to external applicants if they don't get "x" amount of internal. But, they HAVE to hire the internal Union person no matter what as long as they have minimum qualifications. So anyone applying from external stand points, will never get a job if an internal Union member applies. How is that "equal opportunity"? It's not. It's discrimination in several areas.

Here is another point. Minneapolis today announced that they are wanting to "hire" the U.N. Peacemakers. Umm, U.N. police basically, but wait, I thought Minneapolis didn't want people with guns patrolling their cities?. Do you think the U.N. Peacemakers aren't carrying guns? Do you think they don't drive around in armored vehicles? They aren't even American.

There are more white people killed by white cops then black people killed by white cops. More black people killed by black people. So whose being discriminated against by the cops?
