Long story short...my car's check battery light popped on and off for a month.
I finally put a new alternator in...i thought the volt regulator was bad. The car was overcharging slightly.

Problem solved. The check battery light stays off.
But i also found the new alternator maybe is over charging the brand new battery..

???

And to make matters worse..it took me 3 days to remove and install the last one...
That is how big of a bitch this repair is.

So one of two things
1. The parts store sold me a shit alternator for 200 bucks
Or
2. This ford, this alternator just charges higher.,it's was at 14.88 while running.

If so then my original assumption about my car overcharging was complete bunk..
And it was the old alternator itself that was slowly dieing.

Either way the check battery light remained off.

But i put on a new serp belt, new tensioner, new battery and finally a new alt..

And to think of getting a bad alt from the parts store would really seal the deal

Mechman Alternators are the real deal they are custom built to order, but sometimes they have instock options available. alternators for older vehicles are easy to rebuild if you can get them apart. The only thing the rebuilders do are replace brushes and regulators and give it an ultrasonic bath before selling it to a parts store..for a battery to charge to 13.8 you need 1 volt higher to push the electrons in. 13.8 volts of course is the float voltage. Each cell of a 12 volt battery is 2.2 volts so your nominal voltage should be about 13.2 but might settle to 12.7 after some time. Oh..and I've gotten an bad alternator from a parts store. Quality control at AutoZone isn't that high.

I put 3 alternators in a friends f-150. Until i figured out what was what.. In this case , the store was selling us the wrong alternator.. If the truck had an optiional 6cd changer the alternator is a different art.. The stores test kept failing the alternator because the wrong alternator w2as being used

IN MY RESPONSE about the f150 alternator the truck did have the 6 cd changer, so the alterator the oreillys kept giving was for a truck that didnt have the cd changer,...hence it didnt put out enuff charge to test as good. it really wwas not defective just wrong
