Do You Feel Coerced????.........

Do You Feel Coerced????.........
If service is good I go with 20%, higher if more of us are at the table. BUT if service is poor to very poor I also reflect that in the tip with a short note to explain why. Some businesses routinely add 20-30% for larger groups of say six or more.
How do YOU feel about tipping? Freely or coerced??? Also if you have ever worked in a business for tips please give your input on that.

Several area businesses have the tip tied into the charge card machine that you cannot bypass on the screen. You have to request the cashier to remove the tip screen. Lots of times I will leave a cash tip when using a charge card. If using those businesses it is much better to pay cash, or just not patronize them at all. btw "staffing problems" is NOT an excuse for poor service.

Personally, I don't feel coerced when I'm tipping if it's at say, a sit down restaurant. Like you mentioned, if the service is good then I do give a tip If it's not, then I don't. It's slightly different when I go to my barber, I always give a tip. On the rare occasion I go to a local coffee shop and they have a tip jar, I usually put spare change in that if the service and coffee is good, which the majority of the time it is where I go. But there is no way I would give a tip at a fast food place or even like a food truck.

It really depends on the venue. However, in the appropriate venue, I tip well for good service and less for not-so-good service, though taking into consideration things out of the server's control.
