Japan and China have been the largest foreign holders of US debt for the last two decades.

At 120 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), the gross federal debt exceeds the amount of goods and services produced in the United States every year by one‐fifth. The total federal debt burden per U.S. person is $94,000. The total federal debt burden per U.S. household is $240,000. cato inst

If the U.S. defaults all military will
not be paid. If they aren't paid the
armed forces default on their contract
and soldiers will be free to walk away.
China is staging to approach the west
coast immediately and Japan will sail
into pearl harbor without resistance.
Russia will walk through Ukraine.
On military salaries alone, the U.S. is
due to pay out about $4 billion on June
15, according to an analysis released
earlier this week by the Bipartisan Policy
Center.
On June 1, another $12 billion is supposed
to go to military and civilian retirement
payments and $12 billion towards veterans’
benefits.

The source that you cite is just plan wrong. The numbers are right but for every $ the government spends on education, it gets 7$ back. A profit for you capitalists of 6$ per $ spent. Way more than corporations. The states stopped spending their money on education. Why my university's tutition went from 750$ to well over 50,000$. School debt takes a trillion (and much more) from the economy than manufacturing adds. Relieving school debt pays for itself. No piss on economic theory needed. Just numbers that have been constant since the 60s Era GI Bill (my father 10x his income on it - what a good fucking deal for my family and hence the government) . His children were also well educated and I make well into 6 figures and have a PhD. My child has ID and will draw from society, but my sister's 3 children are well educated (one getting a PhD, one with a MS, and one with a BS). Well educated and well compensated. Means lots of taxes. But we pay more in taxes than GE does. FUCKING GE!!! Where's the fairness? Maybe we should collect more from these corporations than 2.79$ per $ we give them (here we is the government and us). To keep they money offshore does hurt the corporations too. Just to save some money for taxes. Other countries are saying fuck that and getting what is owed (10s of trillions). Maybe we should do the same. Controlling repub congress on spending? Good luck. The current proposed cuts hurt you! GE slides. Elon slides. Nothing happens to them. The repubs are just fucking the poor and middle class: you! Hope you like it! I'll be camping in your front yard when I don't get a paycheck.

"more in taxes than GE does"
Anything anyone blogs according to you is always just plain wrong.
blah blah blah....we all have lots of degrees, prior service, kids and grandkids with lots of degrees....everyone making lots of money.....and not a one of us cares if the gov shuts down at all. All you need is a backup plan......whats yours? camping in someone else front yard.....good plan.

And I'm sure you produce lots more than GE does, right? idiots.....
Shutting down the gov over the debt ceiling is kinda like the old jewish store owner once told us. Every store owner needs a little fire every now and then just to keep the books straight. Guess we just need to burn the gov.

The US is one of only TWO countries in the world with an ARTIFICIAL debt ceiling. And every year the republicans use the debt ceiling to hold the country hostage. It's time to get rid of this artificial ceiling and let the Government pay the bills. Especially since it's the Republicans that run up the most debt.
