"On Tuesday, they fired me because I was distancing myself." When you say distancing, what exactly does that mean? Is distancing something that a person can be fired for? In your country is there a difference between a layoff and being fired? I was volunteering at the food pantry most of the day and I am trying to catch up reading the blogs.

For some reason I did not think you lived in the United States. I used to be familiar with those laws. I used to help my HR department document document cases that involved firings when unsafe acts were the cause. I actually saved a person's job when I was a customer at a Duncan Donuts. The owner tried kicking out three Jewish customers who were mentally challenged and he wanted the girl who was managing the place to do it. She refused and he fired her on the spot. I went home and wrote a letter of the whole incident, I gave it to the sister of the Manager. I told her to have her sister challenge the layoff with unemployment. I am a witness and I document things like this. She thought was some nut, but two weeks later she thanked me and said they were so impressed by the letter and her sister was able to collect. An old Jewish woman who got kicked out was there and heard the whole thing. She told me God would bless me.
