Let Me Feel The Sound and Fury

I lived in Key West when Hurricane Andrew blew by at 220 mph wind force. It was a Cat 5 and scary as hell. Of course I acted as if it was no big deal and walked out of a local bar at sunrise not knowing the devastation we missed. Hugo hit Charlotte a few years before as a Cat 2, and I was partying in a field having a Lieutenant Dan moment in rain gear. Yeah, well I decided I wanted no part of hurricanes anymore when I moved to the mountains. Here I am back in a hurricane zone, and not happy about it.

I am in awe of, and equally terrified of mother nature.
She is an amazing force, that will whip your ass with no regard to your life.

Hurricane Ian landed here on Friday afternoon. I sat and watched the ocean as it grew more and more pissed off. From my balcony, I could hear and feel the fury it was unleashing on the sand as well. The hound just hid under the dining room table
Yeah, this is paradise, it has a price, and it is a big ass hurricane.

When it breached the dunes, I just sat and watched from my balcony, because we are on a higher level. At that point, there is nothing to do, but conceive what you will do if the worst happens. If it doesn't, then everything is good. I had food, my dog, and a safe perch. 80 mph wind seems tame compared to 220, just sayin. Sure the trees start breaking, and power goes out - However, 80 is a bad storm, a little scary but not terrifying....But that water...it is a power giant.

The eye passed over. That eerie fucking eye, it gives you hope that its all over. The sun comes out and the wind stills. You think all is good, and then you see the back end of the hurricane coming in the horizon. It is dark and foreboding. As it should be. The reality is it usually packs a punch. This one did not.

Needless to say, the hound and I are still here. I keep asking myself if its worth it. I get a call from Mom, the reason I am here...
The alien is still alive and well, stranded in a hurricane zone...Joy

I wanna wake up
With your weight by my side
And I wanna think that
You look good as you rise
And I wanna turn to you
Turn around by your side
And I wanna think
But not to say
Let me face
The sound and fury
Let me face
Hurricanes
And I wanna see you
As you walk through the door
And time will make us
Some ways less and some ways more
And I wanna talk of nothing
As the world passes by
And I wanna think
But not to say
Let me face
The sound and fury
Let me face
Hurricanes
Let me not turn away
From happiness or pain
Just not to run away
In my heart and in my head
Let me face
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Let me face
The sound and fury
Let me face
Hurricanes
Let me face
The sound and fury
Let me face
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Hurricanes
Hurricanes

I'll take the blizzards in the North over hurricanes in the South.

I agree with Ron and so does my mother. She always said she'd take an earthquake now and then over a hurricane or tornado. We and her father were all born in California, all fairly close to the San Andreas fault and been in several earthquakes that made the national (likely international) news but never close enough to be injured or more than minor property damage.

That sounds like such and intense ordeal. It doesn’t matter where you go, indeed Mother Nature is everywhere and constantly reminding you of her capabilities. She is the Ultimate bitch in charge, and her major Earthquakes are so damn scary. Glad your okay.

Mother nature is the
truest of Dominants.
She forces you out of
your comfort zone, then
holds you down by your
neck an when she lets
you go you hear her
say she will be back.
There is no place in this
world she won't find you.
She has taught me I don't
belong in the Outer Banks.

Hurricanes are so powerful, they should still be named only after women’s names…but I guess that’s just a little too old school.
Song.
Rock you like a hurricane by the Scorps.

I'm glad you're ok. Mother nature is very powerful especially when she's pissed off. I've lived all over the US and there is no where in teh US that mother nature isn't cruel. The west coast has earthquakes and the climate for devastating fires, the midwest is tornado alley not to mention the frozen tundra. The south east and mid Atlantic has hurricanes and the north east is teh other frozen tundra with long winters.

That being said as bad as tornados, hurricanes, and blizzards are, they are at least predictable so one can prepare, if not evacuate. An earthquake isn't, it comes without warning and can be equally devastating.

the fury of Mother Nature truly leaves you in awe of her power & what she can do...hurricanes typhoon tsunami earthquake tornado blizzards etc.
we must respect her & stay clear of where she visits frequently!

I was lucky to be away as the eye passed over my house on the east coast. There is nothing like Mother Nature when she's raging!

Glad to hear you are ok.
Here in the Orlando area, we had flooding; I was able to move my car out of the water before it got too deep. Some of my neighbors were not so luck.
I lost power Thursday morning and it's still down. Luckily, my office system is still up and running so I can remain in touch with the outside world.

Mother nature certainly is impressive.
All these storms & earthquakes make me glad I live in the UK, where
the weather is a lot less dramatic.
Still pisses me off when we get a storm that takes out my fence in the
back garden though. Goodness knows how you feel if it takes out
your house.
