When and how did you learn to love yourself? Do you love yourself?

Howling at the moon and mal ad osteo.

When I learned I wasn't the center of creation. Take the world away, all that was left was me.

Once I started loving myself a little more, most of my world removed themselves and found me awkward

it all starts with that kernel of "I am worthy of being loved"

I found it via faith - God loves me, therefore I'm worthy of being loved.

No matter where one finds it, it's a beautiful armor indeed.

What bothers me is why while loving myself a little more, I have lost most of the people I cared for and they stopped caring for me...

true but sometimes one needs someone to love one to help one start to love oneself

I know what you mean Arty... even though I have become pretty insular and feel I have my peace like this there are moments when I feel incomplete and my need to love someone and to be loved by someone else just keeps poking me from the inside...

I think accepting oneself is the important first step.

When you accept yourself the mirror smiles back at you, always a great way to start the day.
Besides, narcissists show us that too much love of yourself can be unhealthy.

ExNameForUse replies on 10/18/2023 9:22 am:
I was thinking of a healthy love one can feel for oneself... you know... not neglecting your needs, respecting your own boundaries, etc... what makes me sad is that after I started loving myself a little more, many of those I considered my close ones, have gone under various excuses... I was not good for them anymore...

After my last vanilla relationship, quite a few years ago, I really suffered. I told myself that no one would ever love me like I do. Oh, I've found love but not like the love I have for myself.

ExNameForUse replies on 10/18/2023 9:26 am:
I am still learning to take care of myself and show some love and appreciation for myself without guilt and questioning every little thing if it was too much, needed, etc... and I have lost some people I believed we had solid bonds and relationships the moment I started showing some self-respect and not only respecting them, their time, their needs, etc...
