A friend suggested to get a drill so I can do some work on my own, but I am not sure if I would know how to use it properly... maybe if I get it I could ask a neighbor to come and just drill a few holes to hang the pictures and the shelf... Though I got ladders last weekend... ohh dear I was so happy cause they were one of the last bits I missed here... so I used them to clean all those high places I never was able to reach and finally, I fell... my foot slipped right through two steps so I ended down on the floor, but all went well considering... just a few bruises here and there... for all the wrong reasons...
Joking a little, not in love with bruises, as not in love with too much pain, but some nice light marks would be lovely to wear sometimes...

It’s not that hard . They have all types of fasteners for whatever surface you are mounting to.

Ahhh easy for you to say
My hands are not as strong and steady as I suppose it would be good if they were so I could use the tool properly... it is why I would rather have someone who knows how to do it for me

Ex, there has to be a hardware store somewhere near you that sells a assortment of 'hooks' of all different sizes for hanging farmed pictures on you wall, and all you'll need is a measuring tape, a small level and a hammer for that task...wish I was nearby, I'd be by to look at all the problems you mentioned concerning your living place, without any inappropriateness, including the boiler, was in the plumbing and A/C business years ago, and am always willing to lend a hand, even to strangers in the neighborhood, good way to make new friends...does Amazon deliver where you are, they have 'picture hanging hooks' you can order and they'll deliver to you?

ExNameForUse replies on 1/1/2024 12:16 pm:
BWM, thank you... There is a Woby House, a hardware store, near my office where I have bought some metal hanging hooks, there is a small label as a part of the set so I guess with my little hammer I will still manage with hanging pictures, but not with that bookshelf which is rather heavy itself... still some other jobs require more proficiency and for that would be great to have a dear friend close by, and if not, I shall just keep trying with that repairman I know... thank you!

My Dear Ex 💋... Yes you need a good man to fix your problem for sure... ☺️

ExNameForUse replies on 1/1/2024 12:29 pm:
It is good to have someone to lean on for certain things... I can do many things on my own and I consider myself a highly independent girl, but for some jobs, I just don't feel like I am capable of doing ... so a good man needed

I've had my own issues with a leaky roof. I got a quote so we'll just wait and see when they can get to me. I'm pretty self-sufficient but climbing the ladder to the second story is just not for me.

ExNameForUse replies on 1/2/2024 2:35 am:
Dear Dreamy, if only this place was mine, I would approach solving the roof problem differently, and probably replace and rearrange all roof tiles that need replacement/rearrangement and then live without worrying about it anymore... but I am a tenant in my mother's apartment. I don't think I should invest in doing a big repair in her place. It is her job to do it and she knows about the problem. I don't also want to ask her about it again (I did once and she said she can not do anything about it). So my idea is just to fix the most urgent parts which is not a huge job, hence not many want to do it, as they can not charge me as much as they probably can do in other places. I am, so to speak, a waste of time, for them... but hopefully will get in touch with that handyman I have been trying to, or some of neigburs would want to help...

Please, find it out what type of building material consists of your wall before trying to make a hole on it.
Some bricks contains hollows (Itong bricks here in Central Europe) which don't tolerate drilling and hanging something up onto.
If the brick has holes, you shall not hang anything onto it. You have to make/buy a separate picture/bookshelf holder or make legs onto them.

ExNameForUse replies on 1/1/2024 1:24 pm:
I have checked and there is a different sound coming from different walls... I know that outside walls have that isolation layer, if this is the proper expression, and I won't hang anything on those walls, or anything heavy... maybe some photographs... but on the inside walls... I just don't know... I remember when kitchen cabinets were hung there was red dust, so it must be a brick, but dont know what kind of brick... obviously, one more reason to have someone solving this hanging-boiler-roof issue on my behalf

Perhaps your son, with or without one of his friends, could lend a hand? If not, I'm sure there are handymen who advertise for doing odd jobs around people's homes. For your safety, perhaps have a friend or work colleague come over for tea or something while the workman is there to ensure your safety.

If you promise to wear that outfit in the photo and stand on your ladder, I will personally fly over there and get all your chores accomplished. I could probably even provide some bruises de jour.

I was surprised when I read your idea about my son... I rarely ask him for any help, ever... did once when I moved in here, nearly 2 years now since then, was just a little thing, and he did want to help... maybe I could ask him again... maybe not with the roof issue, but with the inside jobs... he could assist if nothing else... I am more into what I can do for him, rather than what he could do for me... it is how I am wired, so to say...

Would you make me a cheesecake, too? ...

I have three cordless drills and one corded one. If we lived close, I would be happy to do he book shelf. I would not mess with roof tile, shingles or such. But I am fixing old leak damage from a tornado that went through here 25 or so years ago. Hope you find the right sorts to do the work you are not comfortable doing.

DD, I am absolutely sure you would be there for me if we were closer... and I am deeply sorry you and all my other friends live so far... or is it me living too far... anyway... thank you, as if it was you coming here to set up this bookshelf so I can start using it finally instead of moving from one corner to another around the room

Thank you, dear Jenny! Loved the cartoon too... though I am not good with ladders, hopefully, one day I will have someone down there to watch over me...
I think you can never be too careful when being on your own... so I am doing my best to keep the risk as low as possible

You could also ask a handy woman?
If you dont like the idea, of a strange man in your house, wich i perfectly understand.
There are a lot of women, who know how to use a drill and other tools....
I would like to be your handy lady! 😊😄
If i lived close to you... 🙏😘

There are also good info movies on Y~ tuu... for DIY.

ExNameForUse replies on 1/2/2024 2:48 am:
Awwww my dear friend... not only we would do a good job with you being a handy lady, I am so sure we would have such a good time together with lots of laughs, music and all sorts of talks and discussions... would love that very much!

Reading how to, as opposed to actually doing the task at hand, always has different variables. Sometimes one does more harm than good when doing a simple job. Call the guy again and if he puts you off, ask him if he knows anyone else who he would recommend you could get to help you.

ExNameForUse replies on 1/2/2024 7:15 am:
Couldn't agree more, likeithot... planning to give him a call next week, after Christmas we celebrate here on January 7th, and ask what you suggested if he says again he is busy, away, ill,...

No, dear BDD, no such thing here where I live... it is a suburban small 4-apartment building where we all carry our own maintenance... I will follow what likeithot suggested... if that fails, then will see what to do... have a lovely day, BDD!
