auto renew

For some reason it is now impossible to turn off auto renew if you have paid for a membership. It just gives you an error message and encourages you to contact customer support. Definitely not a legitimate way to run a business. I have opted to delete all the info in my credit card history such as date, card number etc.
Does anyone know if this will work to cause the auto renew to fail? Given that auto renew can't seem to be turned off I hesitate to call customer service for fear that they will simply bill me again when i ask to turn it off and i really hate having to file a complaint about an illegitimate charge.

seem to recall that i need to comment on a blog post for it to actually go live unless that has changed in the last year or so since i was on here last.

Changing my card details to something invalid has worked for me in the past. I just got a message saying that the transaction was rejected and they couldn't renew the membership. I'm also wary of leaving valid details on a site like this. I doubt the security is anything to write home about.

I turned mine off a couple of months ago. I just checked now and it appears to be still off. My gold expires in about ten days; hopefully for good but thank you for the heads up. Changing the credit card details sounds like a good plan. If they are actually making it impossible not to renew I suspect that is an offence in whatever country they are now based.

Best of luck

If you email them, they WILL turn it off. Have to jump thru multiple hoops on the Help/Contact page to actually get the email sent. Just when you think you are done, you will find another 'submit' button.

You will KNOW it within 24 hours, as they will reply back to you via email. Save that email reply.

What London and the other posters are saying is sadly true. You can't automatically turn off auto renew. Instead, you have to email customer support. This will work -- but why do we have to go though this step in the first place?

Alt was back in the day a fun place. Sadly, it has truly fallen apart over time.

That really SUCKS. Just tried it for shits and giggles and yup, when I try and do the SECOND confirm, it does nothing but has a message about a survey error.

This must be a fairly recent change, I was able to opt out of the auto-renew a couple of months ago.

I had turned it off, in the past and it went to renew. I tired to dispute the charges and got no where. It is why I will not longer sign up. Rip off artists.

Last month I emailed several times about not being able to turn OFF auto renew. The first two replies had NOTHING to do with auto renew......so I know no one even looked at or read those. The third one they replied it was turned OFF. I double checked and it was. Sooooo upon reading this blog I checked mine.....the damn thing is turned back ON.....CRAP!!!!

SOOOOoooooooo I decided to check some other preference items. I was tired of all the notifications in my email box. So I go in and find that section. Left hand side of screen is for online page.....right hand side is for email. It has three headings, IMMEDIATELY, ONCE DAILY, NEVER.....go in and try and tell it never. When I try to click NEVER two of the other tabs open up IMMEDIATELY and ONCE DAILY.....there is always two columns active no matter what you do.... Then in checking other preference sections I find they are just as bad. Some stuff like friend link on profile page is turned OFF but working, allow VIEW PROFILE is turned off but working and on and on.
What are they doing.....choking on their corona beer in their mask......

AUTO RENEW seems to be a trick- you turn it off and unless you check it daily it turns itself back on ... Gray Wolf has some good advice to simply change your billing info and your card cannot be charged without your express permission....
