Had that issue a cpl months ago . Figured it was because I’m not a paid member.

well I always answer anyone who messages me, so if you messaged me and I didnt answer, you are one of the ones whose message disappeared. Lioness

I have had that happen many times....who knows....you ask alt they don't know or don't care. Right now I can no reply to a lot of people that send messages. I have to go to their profile to send them a msg.....with alt is is always another or one thing  I also get notice of views and hotlist but some never show when you go to look.

Yes there’s a glitch whereby you get an e mail you have a message from a named person.When looking in the mailbox it shows as say (1) in the Active box but nothing in any of the folders below.Clicking on the active box just results in a spinning icon. Found using my phone to log on rather than the ipad got round it? you could try that. Nice profile by the way.

Exactly one of the reasons that I don't pay for the site ! I used to but didn't get what was promised so ceased paying !!!!

I've been lucky with not having those issues.

I have had that issue, but I have also had messages going to a different folder. Then it will show in the banner as having a message, but I have to look down the list to see if it went elsewhere. Perhaps see if you have another folder that a message may have gone into? Ars longa, vita brevis - Art is long, life is short
