A story appeared on ESPN yesterday afternoon about Jeanette. She is a 49 year old billiard player, diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer, that has metastasized to her lymph nodes. The doctors give her between 3 months to a year to live...

The news was horrible to hear about anyone, especially someone you know. Jeanette and I were never close. She was a successful billiard player, who was sponsored, and playing on ESPN in the 1990's and early 2000's. I was a semi-professional who was never quite able to get to her level. My success was at smaller tournaments and after hours gambling with men.

But at one of these tournament I played well enough, to play Jeanette who was waiting in the winners bracket. I had played all day through the losers bracket. Our finals match would be played the next day. And I did struggle to sleep that night. The match was competitive between us. The first one to win 9 games of 9 ball. Jeanette won the match and the tournament by the score of 9-5. I will never forget her graciousness to me. She congratulated me on a great tournament and told me what a good player I was... She is a class act all the way. And my heart goes out to her...

I always wondered what happened to these female players who played on ESPN? Because I had played several of them in tournaments, and even beat a couple of them. But American billiards was a hard sport to promote and even harder to be extremally successful at...

if you are using windows. open the photo in windows photo viewer. there are two buttons for turning the photo. turn it the way you want it and close it. it will be saved with the new orientation.

Thanks for sharing!

While I don’t know her well, Jeanette wanders through our pool room here in Central Florida on occasion. A wonderful, talented, classy person, who gives freely of herself.

Devastating news for the pool community and she’s in all of our thoughts and prayers. There is a go fund me page to help with expenses for anyone interested...

I can't say I've ever watched her play on ESPN but my heart and prayers go out to her.

That's understandable if you didn't see her play on ESPN. Many didn't.. My heart and prayers also go out to her. Thank you for the comments.

Sad to hear this news, although I don't know the lady.
I can only wish her the best in her fight.
