Covid has reared it's ugly head with two Dom's I have talked to..

The first one has had it for months now. He was transferred to the state from NY to work. His whole crew got sick, then they infected him. He is not doing good. When we spoke two days ago, he had been released from the hospital. But his, symptoms and pain do not go away, after weeks, and get worse for him. He is 49 years old.

Then, just as I was going to sleep last night my Dom friend from Europe told me he is covid positive. He is 44 years old in great shape. But he also said, I was such a brave man, going out in public without a mask. Then he stated he felt stupid about his choices.

I do admire him for saying that to me... And ultimately he is paying the price for his decision... We are in such a critical place with Covid. So close, yet so far... If we could just hold on a bit longer, let the vaccines start working... If covid hasn't effected some one you know or love, it is just numbers to you, that you get sick of hearing...

To many say masks are infringing on their rights, in their quality of life...

What about my quality of life??

I hate wearing a mask. Especially in warm weather. But it is my responsibility, respect, and accountability that keep me doing it. To protect myself, and all those around me...

I can't wait to be vaccinated. Have the freedom to enjoy summer again. But that is seriously in doubt now. Because states just choose to reopen again, with no mask mandates, because of political pressures. All because we as a country just can't miss a spring break, traveling, or being in groups again..

The science keeps on telling us this is a mistake... Unfortunately, many choose not to listen or be accountable.

Covid is serious, and those that need the vaccine should get it. Sadly, it seems not much changes for those that get the vaccine versus not getting it.

I do agree covid is serious.. And I look forward to my shot. Because I believe that the numbers will improve with time.. Thanks for sharing.

One bat, infected one human and had they worn a mask and isolated, the other ? 130 million, would not be involved. The number changes daily.

Yes.. The numbers do change daily. It's a big country and world out there. Thanks for the thoughts..

As often as the CDC and Fauci change their stances, not sure they do either really.

Entitlement can make people do the most stupid things. I got both doses already but I will still wear that mask for respect to others around me......period !

Got my second shot two weeks ago, so I guess I am officially protected. I still go outside with a mask dangling from my neck to quickly don it for the sake of any passersby who haven't been vaccinated. (If I am one of the 5% who could still contract the virus it might be so weak that I'd be asymptomatic and I'd be dangerous to them.) It's been a long, strange trip and it's not over yet. But it is a relief to know, finally, that I probably won't die now. I am very curious to see what the world will be like in 3 months. While it probably may never be quite the same again, I'd really, really like to go to the movies and an indoor restaurant again.

Oh yes jaykay. Like you I want to see what our world will be like in 3 months... But indoor dining is sorely missed by this sub, not to mention the movies.. Thanks for sharing...

pac

From afar, I wonder at the stupidity of some ! Refusing to wear face masks is just plain idiotic in a pandemic and shows they don;t care about others either!!

I'm sorry to hear your two friends have caught covid.
Here in the UK we have seen a lot of what we call "long Covid," about 33% of
people who've had Covid after they have tested clear of the virus, continue to
have breathing problems & tiredness.

As for being brave, I think this virus is no respector of bravery. Aside from that
we have to remember that it isn't just about us, if we catch it we become another
link in the chain of infection.

While wearing a mask maybe no fun, it seems little enough to do in the circumstances
to protect each other. The supermarkets in the UK have signs at the door saying,
"No Mask - No Entry." If you try to enter without a mask, the door security will
challenge you! As it should be.

As for the comment, "Sadly, it seems not much changes for those that get the vaccine
versus not getting it." I'm not sure why he thinks that.
We vaccinated the over 80's & then the over 70's. The country has been in lockdown
for more than 2 months now, so rates of infection & deaths are falling anyway.
But infections & death rates amoungest those over 70 are falling far faster than other
groups. Excperts are saying, while it's too early to be sure, but it suggests the vaccine
not only protects the individual, but also could well be stopping it being passed on.
Until thats official of course, we must continue to wear our masks of course.

pac369 replies on 3/7/2021 3:12 pm:
Thank you the response Dave. I appreciate the insights from you in the UK.. We also have No mask signs all over... But people don't care and they are NOT challenged by security here, because they might lose their life trying to enforce it. How sad is that??

Thank you for the vaccine info though. Such encouraging info... Hopefully you will get official word on the stats soon... Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts..
