As we have all learned this last year misunderstandings can happen when we are talking online. This even includes talking on the phone... Where we think we have explained our feelings perfectly. But our message is not received that way. The receiver might actually not even understand what you are saying. This is far more common than you think. How someone interprets what you say is many times based on their background and experiences. Misunderstandings can become distance between a couple of you let them... Which is damaging to any relationship,especially a D/s one. Seems logical then why so many Dom's want you to express everything you are feeling... Can journaling help to prevent misunderstandings? I think so.. It let's you articulate all your feelings, to make sense of them. Then express them to your Dom. The important thing is to clear up misunderstandings. Not overreact to them. But taking the time to clear them up. Where both Dom and sub understand why the misunderstanding occurred and how to prevent it from happening in the future... ~ Physical strength is measured by what we carry. Inner strength is measured by what we can bear. ~

It is one of the reasons why I am not too big of a fan of modern tech/communication...very well written.

pac A great post! I think text messaging is so easy to lead to misunderstandings,, where as , hopefully, over the phone, differences can be recognised quickly and discussed... Yes communication is vital & misunderstandings occur all too easily. Face to face misunderstandings are less likely to occur, but if they do you can often pick up on them quickly & correct things. On the phone without visual ques, there is more chance that things are missed, text or email even more so. Of course women often express their feelings in ways that are not always obvious to us men. And men, well we often find it hard to verbalise our feelings anyway. So the whole thing can be quite challenging, but hay who said life was supposed to be easy anyway.
