When a cop makes a u -turn to pull you over its probably not a good thing?

And I wasn't even speeding.... which I usually do all the time.

My offense.... Following to closely... Now I do realize the dangers of this, and I don't make a habit out of it... But I was trying to fucking pass the vehicle ahead of me, when the cop passed me in the opposite lane....

Since when did a police encounter for a simple offense become a inquisition? I was asked where I had came from? Why I had been there? How long was I there? Was the trip business or pleasure? They even asked,by name, who I was visiting? I finally said "why would you ask me that"? The officer said "just asking about your trip mam"... Then he said I was getting a warning regardless, and they walked back to their car to run my license.

WTF is this all about? If I had any kind of a attitude this stop could have gone south in a hearbeat.

What happened to a lecture or a ticket from law enforcement? But not both?

Cops have a difficult and dangerous job no doubt. But how is a interrogation at 11 am, for a non violent offense, appropriate or necessary? Is it a Texas thing? Whatever it was...it was the worst experience I have ever had with law enforcement...

Well , they are on high alert where you are, also you live in a " blue county " local laws are crazy . But some cops are new and scared for good reason. After the things that happened since Saturday . Good luck and just try to placate them, and get on with life.

Yeah.. I do think the one officer was new.. It’s just unsettling to say the least.. Thanks for your thoughts..

Over here it is a target culture to blame, although it is officially denied. If the end of the month looms with insufficient offences recorded officers are told to go get some. Confirmed by nephew and niece, both police officers. I preferred the old days and think there must be better ways of measuring performance.

Sometimes it does feel that way Jenny... I always thought approach determines response fits the police perfectly. But not now.. When they are constant targets.. Thanks for your thoughts...

Sorry, but I don't believe one single word of your story.

Absolutely not!! This ONLY happens to men of color. Don't you watch the news?? In a million years (or two) this would never happen to a Caucasian and particularly never a Caucasian woman.

Doesn't fit the narrative and, accordingly, didn't actually happen. Perhaps this was merely a dream you had?

Yeah, you're right - This is tongue in check, but you can relate to what I'm saying - Right? I'm glad you posted this ... It will burst a lot of stereotypical bubbles about who gets pulled over and what subsequently transpires.

My suggestion would be this ..... The next time you see a police officer and have the ability to speak to them, ask them why they ask these sort of various questions. I think their answer will not only surprise you, but also make sense.

And please come back and share their response. Then those of us that 'know it all' can be educated about it. I encourage other readers here to ask the same question of a police officer and report back.

Well... If it happens again I will attempt to.. But I wasn't into initiating any kind of conversation based on how this officer was acting.. But I appreciate your thoughts on the matter..

It's been over 30 years since I've been pulled over...I think 1987 was the last time when I was 18. I had only been in possession of a driver's license for maybe a year and it was my third time getting stopped. I was still new to driving and made minor offenses. In my three times I noticed Boston Police seemed in no rush to give me a ticket...in fact, they didn't and only one of them gave me a written warning. I got the feeling they engaged in just enough conversation to see if I was impaired in any way then let me loose. City cops usually have more important things to do.

Your cop sounds like he was on a fishing expedition.

"mam" oooh. At first I thought he was trying to get to know you, but then THAT word popped up. It's a back of the neck hair raising word.

pac369 replies on 4/15/2021 2:48 pm:
Not exactly sure what "That" word is?? But I would probably agree with you for sure..

My interactions with the police have always been because of my lead foot. I've been good for quite a few years so I'm not that familiar with the current atmosphere. I will say I've not been through the inquisition as you described.

pac369 replies on 4/15/2021 2:50 pm:
Mine are also normally because of my lead foot to.. This atmosphere is different drmgirl.. Hopefully you won't have to see that. Thanks for your thoughts..

I got the feeling they engaged in just enough conversation to see if I was impaired in any way then let me loose.

Bingo. This is one of the reasons they initiate conversations. There are many drugs out there a person can be impaired by and the police make an attempt to identify any impairments the driver might exhibit during a conversation. Has anybody here ever had a conversation with someone and wondered "What the fuck are they on?"

Can you just imagine the uproar if a person who had just been pulled over and let go by a police officer has a head on collision and kills a family of four ten miles later?

"How could he not have known the driver wasn't impaired?!?!" "Did he even bother to talk to them?????" "Having a simple conversation would have made it obvious!!!" On and on....

People would be screaming for the police officer to be drawn and quartered.

Good points from you and BB... But this went way beyond that.. He questioned me for at least 10 minutes before he ran my license. Plenty of time to see that I was perfectly fine, with no smell of alcohol any where in the car.. I will say this though... Definitely experienced being stereotyped, for whatever reason... And it sucked!!
