The Master's Tournament...

In Agusta, Georgia is the first of the golf majors. It's being held April 7th-10th this year. 88 years and still going strong. This is the 86th playing of The Masters and pacs absolute favorite tournament...

For those who don't know...

The traditions and history of this tournament are as unique as all the Azaleas are. Thirty varieties of the blossoms, which flower from March through Mid-April. On the 13th hole which is called "Azalea" 1,600 flowers alone can be seen! The tournament even has a drink called the Azalea Cocktail. Which is pineapple and lemon juice, gin or vodka, and grenadine...

The Masters always takes place at the same time of year, every year, (excluding a covid November playing). The only major tournament of the PGA Tour season that's played on the same course year after year. Hopefully the weather won't be t o disruptive the next several days...

The green jacket the winner receives on Sunday evening, is arguably the most famous prize awarded t o a winner in all of sports. The winner of the previous year gives the current years winner his jacket. The jacket is technically on loan for the year. Then it is returned to Augusta National t o be stored. When players return to Augusta the jackets can be worn for events at Augusta National...

The Champions dinner is held on Tuesday night of the Masters week, The previous years winner sets the menu. Since Matsuyama from Japan won last year. He naturally is having some sushi and delicacies from his side of the world. Only past winners are able t o enjoy this traditional dinner...

The Par 3 Contest was first held in 1960. It is played on Wednesday. And is probably the tournaments favorite tradition. The 9 hole contest brings together active players and past winners who don't play the main tournament anymore. It is a fun filled exhibition affair. Loved ones from grandchildren to girlfriends act as caddies. Often wearing the classic white jumpsuits the club requires for the professional caddies. T o date; no par 3 winner has ever won The Master's!

How about this for a stringent rule. That is strictly enforced. No cell phones are allowed at Augusta National during the tournament. This includes tablets, camera's and any type of electronic devices. This rule applies t o players as well. There are landline phones available if you can memorize a number!

Augusta National personally mails invitations t o every player who has qualified for the Masters Tournament. (All past champions receive invitations for life.) In proper southern tradition a R.S.V.P is expected back...

Since 1963 the tournament has chosen "Honorary Starters t o hit the first shots of the week, Which officially starts Thursday play. Previous winners and distinguished golfers are given this honor...

pac is still not able t o lift, golf, and it's 90 + degrees in Az. After placing some bets. She will be parked on the couch watching as much golf as she can!

FYI... Tiger says he will play. Which is a amazing story in itself!

I miss the days of Nicholas, Trevino, Player and Watson walking the spring blooms at Augusta.

The Master's is a great tradition.
But the past champions only get an invite until they are 65.
I hope that Tiger is in contention come Sunday, it would be amazing.
And the weather should be interesting.
A soft course will be longer, but they will have the greens hard, so no flag hunting.
Cool and windy, that might hurt Tiger's back and leg, but will make for interesting golf.

pac369 replies on 4/6/2022 12:31 pm:
Yes it is TM!
I write what I read about.
And that's what the article said!
I would be worried about Tiger making
the cut first...
Because I don't think he will...

Ahhh that would be nice Dave!
Very unlikely...
But thanks for positive thoughts...

Pac,

I'm ready, I enjoy watching golf tournaments almost as much as football. They do great broadcasts for the Majors.
I'll have a couple of $5 DFS lineups ready for this. Tiger coming back is intriguing. With his reconstructed leg, I'm curious to see how he holds up walking for 4 days as I think he will make the cut. Now winning, I don't see it. Good luck.

I enjoy the majors much more than normal

But I hear you...
Good luck on your bets to!

Of course, in certain circles, the term "Master's Tournament" might have an entirely different meaning.
Sounds like a hook for some bondage fiction, pac. If you feel up to posting some ideas for the "competition," perhaps I can craft something to share when time permits.

I will have to think about that RB!

Enjoy the tournament. A friend of mine, who trains both amateur and pro athletes, trained someone who won the Master's a few years ago, which I always thought was pretty impressive.

So much new talent on the courses every year that I do not think we are going to see any one golfer dominate the sport again, every so often there are surprise winners, Larry Mize comes to mind in 1987 (the only winner actually born in Augusta, Georgia), Sandy Lyle in 1988, Ian Woosnam in 1991, Mike Weir in 2003 and Trevor Immelman in 2008, the last four non American, exactly half of the last 14 Masters have been won by foreign players. of the last 20 Masters, six won by left handed players, Mickelson with three, Bubba Watson with 2 and Mike Weir. What I like about the course is that it really tames the long ball hitters and requires much more finesse and choosing of the right shots to get you around, one fatal error can take you right out of it. Enjoy the weekend.

pac369 replies on 4/6/2022 4:26 pm:
I agree D!
I also love the finesse
that's required at Augusta...
Because it does get old just
seeing guys drive the ball over 300 yards!

Sadly, it looks like you need to wait till Friday to see any action on the course that is. You can always play with your toys and nasty bits instead tomorrow and everyday

pac369 replies on 4/6/2022 4:30 pm:
Why do you say that Iso?
Only 40% chance of weather tomorrow...

And toys can still wait for a bit...

Augusta is a very uppity snooty elitist club
I luv the tournament the azaleas in bloom & Amen corner which makes or breaks contenders
Tigers play is responsible for trees being planted & holes lengthen
roll that Tiger...l hope he has a good tournament be awesome if he won but not expecting any miracles l’d luv for him to get 19 majors...he coulda shoulda already done that but injurys & scandals have reeked havoc w his quest thou seems like he’s back on track but time is running out for him at 46 yo!

pac369 replies on 4/7/2022 9:11 am:
Yeah... I agree bdsm!
But... I still love it...

Tiger certainly has had his scandals and injuries. After 3 holes he's even par and holding his own. He's limping a bit, and just seems to be in pain. Not sure if he can handle 4 days of that?

pac

When thinking of the Masters, who does not recall - The Golden Bear and Arnold Palmer?

I love that phones are banned ! So sensible!

It will be fascinating to see how Tiger goes! he has charisma!

included...
