To me it looks like something you've picked up from Area 51. Have you been around any flying saucers lately? I'm going to register for the beginner's class. Knowing what room this device is used in might help, but I doubt it would help me...

Woohoo... I feel good now.  OK, the new photo! To me it looks a bit like a macro photo, very zoomed in and hard to focus. I'm going to guess one of those circular spring loaded hook/loops they use to anchor two lengths of chain together on a necklace.

Same idea, only larger. I've seen these used to tether a horse, but they were originally used on the docks when swinging loads back and forth during loading and unloading. As for why there is one in Natalie's apartment...

it's a quick release dog clip? handy for temporarily clipping onto just about anything.. sometimes used for Bondage with cuffs, chains, and stuff...

Nah Natalie I have nothing. I did think it might be a security type strap that prevented a suitcase from spewing forth all it's contents if the latches failed but other than that - Nah, nothing.
