Changing of the guard

Have just witnessed a virtual discourse in a chat room on the way BDSM has changed in recent times.
As we all know the lifestyle has been around in various forms for millennia, it’s only very recently it has actually come into the glare of joe public (due in no small way to E L James and her shaded book).
In the old(er) days exponents of BDSM were mostly bored affluent persons of note or completely sadistic bastards…no light spanking for them , full on whipping .
It got me thinking, is it better now ? There are those who would rather it stayed in the shadows, a very exciting thing, a very secret thing, a very personal thing, a very dangerous thing. Now it’s just off the mainstream spotlight, everyone knows about it, some are curious about, most have dipped their toes in it.
I personally believe it’s position is as good as it needs to be right now, those with an interest have access, those who live it 24/7 have access to many more likeminded people and it’s a lot safer than the old ways…don’t like the way someone talks online? Ignore them. Simple, effective, done.
This modern age, these days of internet fulfilment are just the latest way to slake ones thirst.
There is an emerging taste for “extreme taboo”, it’s just human nature trying to go one step further, to want something nobody else does, to be that special one. Just be careful what you wish for.
