A private blog?

I am trying to set up a private blog so that standard members can contact me with only us seeing the conversation, but not exactly sure how it works, so comments are very welcomed.

I have checked off that all comments must be approved so if I never approve any then they are private right???

Also, can I reply privately to somebody if I want to? Or will my comment be public???

So confused...
