Doesn't exactly sound like praise to me. It sounds as if he was saying that you're a lovely and loveable girl but that you need a more rational person in charge of you. It looks from your profile as if you have such a person, and all I can say is that he's a very lucky man indeed to have taken charge of such a lovely girl.

I recall that strange realization myself, namely, that I had overcome a number of issues and had in fact become the "stable, reasonable one." For better or for worse, maybe that means you've grown up or become "an adult." Becoming a parent will do that to you right quick, young lady.

I don’t know your father and if he rarely joked then this is a compliment. Fathers build up their children. Saying this for a serious man doesn’t make sense as it would be sarcasm which it sounds like he doesn’t do. IMHO, if a situation came up where you were the voice of reason, it means that the fit has hit the shan. Everyone else has lost control, capacity, intelligence and only you are still there functioning. You have strength beyond what you see or know and if you are the coo e of reason that means it is a fuck tangle of epic proportions and you alone are able to handle it.

The voice of reason is ok but if that's all we have, it's a very dull path. The voice of random takes us to more interesting places and we all need some of that!
