Do you have a saddle for that thing?

PSA

Please people, for the love of that is holy. Don't ask Great Danes owners that. It's stupid, it's annoying, and we've heard it a MILLION times.

Hi colleen, thank you for stopping in and commenting Yes I love the temperament of the gentle giants, and of course they don't call them the Apollo of Dogs for nothing!! A striking, noble breed!

Used to do obedience training with Danes back in the 70's. Won a few Australian national titles at the Sydney Easter Show. Smart dogs if you know how to handle them.

They are fantastic dogs. I haven't owned any but a mate has and I have had a lot to do with them. My favs though are still Shepherds and Rotties. But then to me, ALL dogs except little yappers are special.

Hi NoNonsense, I just love the temperament on the big goobers *L* I love Rotties and Shepherds too-any big dog really, but due to breed specific legislation, would you believe your homeowners insurance goes up with an "aggressive" breed. Not a fan of the ankle biters myself *L* Be well

Well, you could always respond, "No, I always ride him bareback!"

Some will 'get it' .... Others won't.

Well that's a clever response indeed Meister, however, if I say that I'm afraid people might think me *gasp* a pervert!!!!

I have 2 of them. they want to use my head for a pillow at night. When they stretch out the take up a lot of room.

softrayne replies on 1/9/2021 10:37 am:
Oh my goodness assertive-I had 2, the bitch passed recently due to complications from an auto-immune disease-she was a rescue so I can't be sure of any underlying heath conditions. My old man-10 in February is my heart dog, and I'm on a waiting list with a fabulous breeder for a puppy later in the year.

I can't be without a Great Dane. I love those dogs. Right now I also have two girls that are 1/2 Great Dane and 1/2 Belgian Malinois. I thought the Great Dane 1/2 would make them more docile and calm, but they are big and slightly on the aggressive side. Belgian Malinois are the preferred breed of swat and secret service. My girls are hight intelligent, but they haven't shown an aptitude for math. They do require a lot of interaction to keep them out of trouble. I don't believe we would be welcome at the dog park. They are always very focused on me and what I'm doing. I don't encourage any aggressive behavior. If I have any trouble at home. It's going to be the dogs night off. I'm the protector here. You liking Great Danes just added a star to your name.

softrayne replies on 1/9/2021 7:47 pm:
What an interesting combination. Was that a planned breeding? What do they look like? Short hair? Medium hair, tall? the head? I can't picture it.

The dogs are brindle color and they have dark faces like a Belgian Malinois. with longer ears, but not as long as a dane. they are very pretty. they are a bit smaller than a Dane but muscular and a little over a 100 pounds. They dont have that squared off head that a dane has. They are definitely more coordinated and smarter. They always watch what im doing with interest. Their hair is longer than a Danes but short and very soft. This wasn't a planned breeding. The parents belong to someone else and they are registered. I usually have one on my pillow and one under the covers when I go to sleep, sometimes both under the covers. I have probably thousands of dog pictures and videos on my phone and maybe 3 or 4 people pictures. If you're ever feeling frisky and curious. drop me a note at gmail. I'm greenvilledom there and I have plenty of dog pictures. I have a Great Pyreness and a black Belgian Shepherd too. He's a big baby. I tried doing dog rescue but I failed at it and adopted the dogs and had to stop. it's good to find a dog person here..take care..Rick
