Where have all the REAL people gone

I have been troubled by more and more of what I see online these days. People who are so into the fantasy that they loose touch with reality. Maybe it is just that online is so "virtual" that people see it like video games ... you know shoot them .... come back tomorrow and things are just like before so you do it again. Only problem is that here the bits and bytes are another person, whether we want to admit it or not.

I have been in the online world for almost 20 years now. It seems that the problem just keeps getting worse and worse. And in the BDSM online world that can be even more dangerous. So many folks I meet ... not just newbies but so called experienced folks .... have never taken the time to study the craft. Many say Castle What when you mention Castle Realm (one of my favorite resource sites). Some even negate the foundations that existed before the days of Internet saying that is just old school this is a new day.

Those principles .. not just safe, sane and consenual...but the nature of a Dom's responsibility ... the need for a sub to be equipped with knowledge among others came about for a reason. That reason being that we are all real people in this lifestyle. At our cores this is all about meeting the needs of our selves and our partner AND finding along the way acceptance we crave from real people. No matter what roles I see this to be the case.

An old saying about technology goes something like if you don't know how to do something with out the technology ... then what makes you think you can do it just because you have the technology. If you can understand the basics of this lifestyle and practice them without the world of email and chat then how do you know if you are real in this virtual world? Don't get me wrong the technology can be a great tool if used correctly.

So I ask where have all the real people gone? The answer, I think, is that the are out there ... just look past the keyboard and screen.
