Got the Second Shot

My drove me downtown to get my second shot of the vaccine. The nurse warned us that the reaction to the second one was usually worse, apparently because the immune system is primed by the first shot to recognize and attack the antibodies in the intruder. It's been more than 12 hours and I don't feel any different.

In addition to the relief at completing the vaccine regimen, visiting an area of the city I hadn't seen for a couple of years provided an added benefit. What had in earlier years been a hangout for hookers and drug pushers has been gentrifying. The hundred-year-old stately brick buildings have come back to life and we spotted several promising eating and drinking establishments that we immediately put on our post-covid must-visit list. The supermarket where I got my shot was huge and as well-appointed as a Wegmans, with luxury apartments up above and more apartments over a validated-parking garage right across the street. City living at its finest.

There's life out there, folks, if we can just have the discipline to follow Dr. Fauci's guidance.

had Pfizer - no bad reactions, just thrilled to get the FauciOuchie. The release of J&J will speed up access, especially in non-standard settings. NYC using J&J single dose for nightshift vaccinations at Javits Center.

Stay well ~

That's great news. Welcome to the club. I guess we'll have to work out a secret handshake so we'll be able to recognize each other. My grandson's in Brooklyn. Still no idea when he and his girlfriend are going to get their shots. Hopefully it'll be the one-shot J&J.

Have you made plans for how to celebrate? I started with a 2 lb. rib roast and a bottle of claret. I think, however, that the occasion really calls for something more formal.

Congratulations on getting your 2nd shot.
Over here in the UK, I just got my first.
Just got a slightly sore arm, my arm was worse last year when I had my
flu shot.

I had even less reaction than you to my first shot. Only a couple of brief twinges in the arm when it got into an awkward position. Obviously reactions vary Hope your second shot goes well. Whatever the reaction, the alternative is far worse.

I'm happy for you, J. I hope you don't have any bad reactions from the second shot that you cant handle. Please let me know how you're fairing. Take care of yourself. ((hugs))

Considering I spent the next 24 hours or so in bed, mostly asleep, the reactions were obviously nothing I couldn't handle, M. Sleeping is one of my better skills. I'm heading out for my first hopefully complete 2-miler shortly. Take care of yourself too, and start the shots as soon as you can.

They keep moving the end zone.

Funny how that resembles life, isn't it?

Science is based on evidence. When the evidence changes, the science has to adapt. One of my favorite definitions of intelligence is the ability to recognize and adapt to changed circumstances. Obviously there are a lot of not very intelligent people out there. Let's hope they don't; exceed 30% of the adult population.

That's fantastic. I read a week ago that the second shot is fine for those 55 and older.

For me, I'd take some pain with the second if I could somehow figure out where to get the first. Maryland somehow seems to be dropping the ball.

Maryland has got some problems that are a bit hard to understand. DC is actually pretty easy to navigate, even though they are now reserving more than half the available shots each week for the lower-income wards and allowing essential workers who live in Maryland but work DC to compete for shots on the day open to the entire city. Eventually I expect DC to open shots up to everybody in Maryland who works in DC. I hope you don't have to wait for that to get your shot, but it may become an option for you if you work in DC.
