Nothing you could write would ever be anything but an enhancement to any post of mine, J. The Certificate Course looks very impressive and the Weekend Intensive appears to be on a par with or perhaps even superior to the best offerings available on similar topics from weekend retreats held by groups or organizations I was familiar with in the US before the disruption over the past three years.

    Interesting. Where do they nest?

We have a few hawks in the city too. I've seen them swoop down on an unsuspecting squirrel in a treeless open back yard and fly off with it clutched in its talons. I even saw one carrying a snake while gaining altitude over the Shenandoah River. The one I heard made the same sound as you describe, but was repeating the cries in rapid succession as it flew. It was probably some kind of signal or perhaps to frighten potential prey into moving and revealing its location.
There are lengths of forested hills here and there among the heavily populated areas.
I believe that's where they live.
But there are birds that nest in the trees in the urban area. I can hear them chirping during twilight or early dawn.

I live in a bustling metropolis, but there are hawks screeching.
    They go something like "Keeeeeeeyyyyy!"

This is they way it's always been, until I started a noisy renovation project. Fortunately I've been promised an end to that torture by the end of next week. Fingers crossed.

. It’s amazingly peaceful considering that it’s more than a mile from the nearest paved road and abuts the buffer zone for the Appalachian trail so nobody can build on that side of my property, yet only an hour from the city limits.

I should have been out swimming in the lake, but it was just too pleasant following the the path of Christopher Robin “sometimes I sits and rocks and sometimes I just sits”. As I write these words another hummingbird hovers at the feeder and then flies away before I can take a photo. They seem unusually camera shy yesterday and today. Two days ago one of them was flying around my head and chirping, scolding .me because the feeder was empty😀.
