"starter" BDSM non-fiction There are many different books to choose from to learn about BDSM, from the straightforward practicalities up to the psychological dimensions, each bringing its own viewpoint to the mix. Some are aimed at specific topics, and some at specific roles - but they can all add to our understanding and outlook on the Lifestyle. When asked by newbies what is a good starter to read, my recommendation is usually to tandem "The bottoming book" and "The Topping Book" by Dossie Easton and Catherine Liszt/Janet Hardy. My own personal copies are the older version, but there are newer issues available under the titles "The New ..." - hence my listing the co-author as Catherine Liszt or Janet Hardy, depending on which version you purchase. I have occasionally been asked if there's anything you can give a family member or friend to read if you have just come out to them, or are about to do so, regarding your lifestyle choices. The same authors (Dossie and Catherine) have also written "When someone you love is kinky" and it puts things in understandable terms and, I personally feel, gives a good frame of reference. Another good practical starter book for your journey into BDSM can be "Screw the roses, send me the thorns" by Phillip Miller and Molly Devon. It's a great guide to many different aspects, and walks you through the basics in a very practical way - starting with learning the lingo, etc. It also covers practical techniques - and even has pictures. ~s~ Even if you're well-experienced I think this book has value as it can introduce some new possibilities ... after all, we never stop learning. And keep in mind, as Jim Rohn says ... ^^ the book you don't read can't help ^^ ~juicyslut~ ~juicyslut~ |
