The Ethical Slut: insight and affirmation

Choosing a polyamorous road isn't always easy and doesn't always gain you popularity. Amazingly enough it can easily garner you criticism even here within the Lifestyle, as some people seem to think that anything falling outside their own personal terms of reference for kink is automatically wrong. Imagine that! But enough - this blog is to review books I've read, not for use as my personal soapbox! ~s~

I originally wrote this little review about five years ago, when I first read "The Ethical Slut" by Dossie Easton.
This book is a great resource for anyone struggling with their need/desire for multiple partners in their life. It gives wonderful insight into the checks and balances involved in making such a choice, and upholds the ethics and honesty necessary to live this lifestyle in a loving, healthy way. It also affirms choices already made by showing how one can live an open honest way within polyamory.

Now, five years later, I stand by that review. I've read other books about various aspects of polyamory since then, but none have given me the practical help I gained from reading "The Ethical Slut".

"Polyamory: the new love without limits" by Deborah Anapol was certainly interesting, and it referenced many other works which then went on to provide further reading of value. And "Spiritual Polyamory" by Mystic Life definitely spoke to my deepest being. But "Slut" gave me what I needed most and enabled me to balance my feelings and emotions when my choices threw me into conflict with those of a more traditional outlook. "Slut" helped me get my house in order and define my own personal ways of dealing with everything multiple relationships bring. (Well okay, maybe not absolutely everything as each bring their own challenges and changes! ~s~) This book helped me come to terms with my needs and desires seemingly forcing me into non-traditional choices, and its clarity allowed me to focus on bringing the integrity of my personal ethics and values into multiple relationships. It helped me settle within myself and gain my own comfort level, plus a new feeling of wholeness deep inside.

I suppose I have much residual fondness for this particular book because it greatly helped me become the one I am today.

And keep in mind, as James Bryce says ...
^^ The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it ^^

The book review what a lovely idea.

I look forward to your views. And yes, it is amazing how even though in an alternative lifestyle can be judgemental. There is that bazaar governor in our heads (or in the heads of some) that can absolve them of their kinks as normal and condem all else.
