Dominant vs. Dominate Admittedly this is a pet peeve of mine but I'm seeing it more and more. Dominate: verb, infinitive "to dominate" ... "to have a commanding influence on; to exercise control over ...", as in "She tends to dominate the conversation." Dominant: 1) adjective, "most important, powerful, or influential", as in "She's a dominant woman." 2) noun, "a dominant thing or person", as in "She's a dominant, not a sub" No one is a "dominate." That like saying "I am a run." "I am a sleep." "I am a talk." |

I'm glad to see someone else finds this spelling matter a pet peeve. I get irked when I read Dominate in place of Dominant. And you are absolutely correct, I'm seeing it more and more. All we can do it point it out and home they correct themselves in the future.

So true. This one in particular is a pet peeve, though all grammar and spelling errors are a problem!
