There are dog people in the world and there are cat people. There are also those of us who own and enjoy both equally.

Wherever you fall within these categories, you're undoubtedly aware of the stereotypes given to our canine and feline pets. I may be wrong, but I think the felines probably get the worst press - especially from people who have never owned one.

I've owned beaucoup through the years and, yes, cats are gonna be cats, but they have very unique personalities too and are great company to have around.

What say ye peanut gallery? Are you a dog person, a cat person or an equal opportunity person? Regardless, I'm sure you can relate to this meme.

I'm a fan of both. I have a dog and three cats now. I have a tendency to take in strays so the size of the cat herd has varied over the years.

Yeah ... A Beagle and two tabby cats here. I hear you about the feral cats - I feel for them and put food out for them when one is around.

One of the tabby cats was a former feral cat I took in.

Well Plz I like both cats and dogs ...However I'm just not interested in taking responsibility for caring and feeding them so I don't have any pets ... Besides that my boyfriend always treats me like I'm HIS private personal PET ...So I guess I've got that covered...

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 7:09 am:
Yeah, it's a big responsibility to care for and feed pets, not to mention those expensive trips to the vet.

The thing is though ... I grew up with both cats and dogs all my life. To me, they're part of life.

I've experienced time with both. I like the independent nature of most cats. They are easier to care for and far less needy than dogs. However, I've found them equally affectionate, in their own ways.

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 9:09 am:
Yes, cats are very affectionate. One of mine has a nightly ritual ....she hunkers down on my chest with her nose 1/1,000,000 inch from my nose. She turned her motor to loud and stays there for about a minute while I scratch her chin. Then it's off to the bottom of the bed so that I have no place to put my feet.

If this isn't every single night, it's 9 out of 10.
I don't know what I'd do without my nightly 'crushing' as I call it. It's like having a cinder block on your chest!

Cat person here. Their aloof nature calls to me and yet they can purr and cuddle with the best of them. Sounds like a Mistress I know

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 9:21 am:
Yeah, you know when a cat's content by the volume of their purring. I have one who's a lap cat and one that isn't.

The lap cat 'Tubby' is mellow. 'Lunchbox' is a little more independent and mischievous. He will also fetch things like a dog ... Well, until he decides the game is over.

I love both cats and dogs and have had both over the years. Only have one cat now, easier to care for than a dog.

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 9:10 am:
Yeah, for one thing you don't have to take them for walks.

Putting a leash on a cat would be like putting one on a tornado ... at least my two.

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 9:12 am:
Yeah, the hierarchy around here is parrot, cats and then poor Lewis, the Beagle.

Yep - He's low man on the totem pole.

I've only had dogs. I like cats but others in household do not so i have no experience living with them. I think both have good & bad traits. Personally I do enjoy having them around.

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 9:17 am:
Cats are a trip for sure. That 'bump' in the middle of the night is the cat getting into something every time.

The yellow tabby has a 2 O'clock in the morning habit of trying to open a cupboard door with his paw. Gets it a few inches open and then it slips and 'bam' ... back it goes. After 10 or 15 of these it's "BOX!!!!! Knock it off!" After he's accomplished waking you up, he considers it mission accomplished and gets back on the bed. Little fucker.....

I have had both... But 2 cats right now named Birdie and Par...
Cats have great personalities! But you have to live with them to see it...
I am going to also get a dog in my future... Just don't know when...

One difference, when a dog's tail is wagging, it usually indicates a happy dog.

However, when a cat's tag is wagging, like swatting a fly mode, they are definitely not happy.

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 10:28 am:
Agreed ... They're exact opposites in the tail wagging department. One happy and one pissed off.

And a cat doesn't put their tail down between their legs when they're in deep sh*t.

Does a cat ever admit to being in deep shit?

Plzrmeister replies on 9/23/2021 1:45 pm:
No. You might think they're in deep sh*t, but they think it's merely your own personal problem to work out.

Besides, if they ever actually do determine they're in it deep, they know all the hiding places in the house to hid until things cool down.

Yeah a dog knows when it's broken the rules.
The cat doesn't accept you have any right to set the rules!

I would describe myself as a dog person, I quite like cats, even though
one cost me a lot of money. When I was a young man I was riding a
motorbike on a wet evening. Cat ran across the road in front of me, I
swerved to miss the cat & hit a telegraph pole. I was OK which I guess
is the main thing. The motorbike wasn't, the thing was I'd borrowed the
motorbike! Cost me a fair bit, I did go off cats for a few years, but I've
let it go now.

Can't you just hear a cat thinking ..... "Rules? There are rules? Fuck that sh*t!"

That's probably very close to reality. It's a love - hate relationship in many cases, but mine are in the love column right now.

You're right. Cats could have played the part of the fake Federales in the movie, Treasure of Sierra Madre.

From hiding, Bogart shouts out, "If you're Federales, show me your badges!"

The cat answers back, "Badges, badges, we don't have no stinking badges!"

Plzrmeister replies on 9/25/2021 4:54 am:
I've got one sitting here on the table right now staring at me. It's his "Get off your ass and get me some treats!" look. He knows it's a function of time before I do as I'm supposed to.

Rule of thumb - Never get into a staring contest with a cat.
