Actually, I had to uncover and feed the Blue Fronted Amazon parrot and then walk the Beagle right after my initial post.

When I got done with those morning chores, I was able to get to my actual blog. You were an early bird!

For those of us with cats and dogs (other animals too?), we know Christmas can be a precarious time. Our brains have to go into 'outsmart the pets' mode. Pets can do a lot of damage to Christmas decorations and/or presents.

Low hanging decorations on a Christmas tree are practically irresistible to a cat, and a dog will sniff out any presents containing food.
I remember my Beagle finding the jerky years back. It was in an air sealed package, yet his bionic nose located it and he enjoyed a fine meal - asshole!

The tree and under it aren't the only danger zones either.
Our cats regularly patrol the counter tops, so ya gotta be careful what you leave out. One of ours will eat about anything he can fit in his mouth, so cookies, cake & other goodies aren't safe. He's one you have to really out-think and anticipate for.

The Beagle is too short to reach a counter top, but many of you in the peanut gallery have dogs that can. Leave edibles where they can reach them, and you can say good-bye to them. With all the baking & cooking that takes place around the holidays, one has to keep their head screwed on straight .... I'm convinced animals look forward to the Christmas season as much as kids do!

Any peanuts have any stories to share of animals and Christmas mixing in the wrong/funny manner?

By the way, with two approximately 4 month old kittens terrorizing our house, the Christmas presents reside on top of the refrigerator. Imagine.

Oarrot, Beagle and three head of cat .... It is an animal farm. The parrot (Mickey) is the head honcho.

Endless love from the critters here.

Love the picture Plz....

And yeah.... cats and Christmas trees don't really go together...
I never put ornaments to low...
And fuck, had to give up tinsel! When it ended up all over
the house...

I'm sure more than one Christmas tree goes ass over tea kettle each year from cats deciding they need to climb on them. You're right, tinsel might as well be catnip .... Cats can't resist.

Looks like that dog enjoyed some cookies, doesn't it?
Probably can hardly wait to lick his nose and finish the job. This might also be a clever trick by the kids to shift the blame. "No mom, we didn't eat the cookies. Look at Bosco - He did it!!!"

One of my cats was even worst!

She could open the fridge and take out all the lovely expensive meat and eat it too!
Never went for the left overs, or the cheap meat part....

Every day was a struggle and game, to keep her out of the kitchen!
And, I still i loved her to bits, adored her for her stealing techics....
She was a 'domesticated' stray cat.

Plzrmeister replies on 12/2/2021 9:15 am:
I think the strays come with a lot of 'street smarts' and survival skills. Cats never cease to amaze ... I had one that would sit on a ledge and ring the doorbell with his nose when he wanted in. One of mine now (The Little Monkey) loves to play fetch. Brings things back better than most dogs.

Thank goodness my resident pig cat (Captain Jack) can't reach the refrigerator door. He'd eat us out of house and home.
Little turd!

I had to buy a new tree skirt this year because Miss Kitty decided it was perfect for cuddling in. She didn't bother the tree, she just wanted to sleep under it.

Plzrmeister replies on 12/2/2021 1:44 pm:
We have a small fake tree on a TV tray. There's a red cloth underneath it which hangs over the sides and front. Neither kitten has decided to try to jump up on it yet or grab the cloth, but I'm convinced that's just a matter of time.

The same TV tray was used for Thanksgiving decorations. We covered it with a plastic sheet that hung over the sides and front just about as much as the red one does now. They enjoyed shredding the plastic. Little fuckers!

No, definately a completely innocent dog there, no sign of any guilt at all.
"Who me? No no no it wasn't me!"

Of course you're right, he could have been set up by the kids.

Plzrmeister replies on 12/3/2021 5:25 am:
It was definitely the kids!

Yep, when something goes wrong, blame the dog. They're a great scapegoat for more than farting.

Does my story fit in with it ....? It's from my childhood .... My father brought a stray cat home and it stayed ... Whenever he came home he called for his cat ... One day he called for her again and she had the ideal position for a kick out for me and I used it ..... the cat never came back .... he didn't understand that and lost me forever ... .

Sorry, but I wasn't able to follow what you're saying.

I got lost about 1/2 way through too.

I learned years ago to keep my cats out of harms way.

But you have me thinking of cookies. Those round ones with peppermint & almonds in them.

Plzrmeister replies on 12/3/2021 5:33 am:
Very little around here that could harm them ... They seem to find anything and everything that they can harm or get into though. A pair of kittens will do that.

\Yum! Those cookies sound delicious. Tis the season, so enjoy!
