I don't know about you - or about anyone in the peanut gallery - but this happens to me periodically. I head out into another room or section of the house and when I get there, I draw a blank about WTF I'm doing or wanted to do.

Tell me about it! I do the same thing .... I have to stop and think about it for a second or two and then I'm like "Oh, that's right - I wanted the duct tape." Given that, I think this most normally happens to me when I head out into the garage.

I suppose we're at an age when this becomes semi normal. As long as it's just every now and then, it doesn't concern me or make me worry .... When I bring the subject up with friends, it's like "You too?" All my grandparents lived to a ripe old age and their minds remained sharp as tacks.

It doesn't really concern me either .... I'll bet a lot of people in the peanut gallery can relate, can't you? Forgetfulness is simply a function of aging .... and none of us are getting any younger. I had something else I wanted to add, but I forgot what it was.

It's all an illusion. unless Schrodinger's Cat is left out of the box.

"One Big Sky Covers Us All Equally"

I had no idea what that meant, so I had to look it up...

In the thought experiment, a hypothetical cat may be considered simultaneously both alive and dead, while it is unobserved in a closed box, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

I've read that several times nd still have no idea what it's saying...

I must say I do get good exercise going up and down the stairs retrieving things I've forgotten.

That's a good point!

If I go upstairs for something and then forget what it is .... I stay up there until I remember.

it has always been this way for me. i start thinking about other things almost immediately and then forget the first thing.

Plzrmeister replies on 1/11/2024 8:31 am:
Yeah .... I can see that in you - A seriously busy mind..

You'll have to write things down ..... My mind can get full of thoughts, projects and otherwise too and I have to remind myself to get one thing at a time done.

Yeah .... We've entered 'that zone' of life, haven't we?

That's why my car keys are attached to my pants with a carabiner.

Yep, when I was still working, I'd leave a machine, start thinking
about other things on the way back to the workshop.
Now what did I come back for? A tool? A part? What?

Usually after a pause I'd remember what I'd come back for.
But there was the odd time, I'd have to walk back to the machine
to jog my memory of what it was I needed.

Plzrmeister replies on 1/12/2024 5:01 am:
Yeah .... After a WTF pause, what I'm doing or wanting generally comes back to me.

The operative word being 'generally'. Sometimes the WTF pause is longer than others.

There's a saying for it: "If you forgot it then it wasn't that important" Hopefully we only forget things that aren't that important...I forgot my key the other day, luckily my neighbor was good with a piece of plastic!

Plzrmeister replies on 1/12/2024 5:05 am:
Yeah, that's probably a good rule of thumb when spacing things out. In my case, it's just minor things I have memory lapses with.

Yep .... I went into the garage yesterday planning to clean out the cat box. I got in there and then had 'that moment' of "OK, what was I doing?" I looked around and seeing the litter box jarred my memory.

Another great post, glad to see I'm not the only one. My ex-wife always said I was having a blond moment. LOL

Plzrmeister replies on 1/12/2024 10:46 am:
Yeah .... I've heard it referred to that as well. Here's a blonde moment for you ..... What do you call four blonde drivers at a four way stop intersection?

Eternity.

Oh, My Lord... That happens to me at least twice a day. I go into a room and *boom* I cannot remember what I went in there for. I keep calling it a "Senior Moment" It's so frustrating!
As Always,
Thanks for the thought-provoking post .

Yeah .... The "Senior Moment" ... That's the terminology I hear most often. You have those at such a young age as53? You're right, it is frustrating.
