If you remember this song, raise your hand. It was released in 1967 .... A mere 57 years ago. Dayum - I just aged myself! Anyway, it was a combination song ( sort of a song ) about hauling trash to the dump on Thanksgiving and the Vietnam War. It was L-O-N-G and took up the entire side of an album .... For those of you who know what an album is.

I remember that Arlo Guthrie song .... It was great! It started off with Arlo and a friend hauling a half a ton of garbage in his VW Microbus with shovels and rakes and implements of destruction to the dump and things sort of spiraled out of control from there because the dump was closed on Thanksgiving.

I think of this song about every time I see a VW Microbus - Especially if said Microbus is red. One sees fewer and fewer Microbuses on the road these days .... Hell, I don't know if they're even manufactured nowadays. I am positive someone in the peanut gallery can enlighten us on that topic.

The Microbus is a classic for sure. One of my neighbors owns one and it's his pride and joy. He only even drives it every now and then and I think he polishes it until it practically glows in the dark. When I saw this meme with a Microbus, it was Alice's Restaurant all over again. I wonder what Officer Obie would think of this paint job. For those of you who have never listened to the song - Do yourself a favor and do so.

You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant excepting Alice...

Yep .... Those lyrics are part of the refrain of the song.

About the only lyrics that were actually sung. The 'song' was mostly a narrative .....

I'll have a BLT. Hold the bacon, hold the lettuce, hold the tomato and lightly toast the bread. Wrong movie, but who is counting?

OK

Why not .....

I don't know what Officer Obie might think about the paint job in the meme, but it sure fits in the "summer of love" of 1967.
Might be dating me, but thanks for the memories. 17, young and dumb and full of cum.

If Obie spotted a crime he'd surely gather up "27 eight-by-ten color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one
explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against the owners of that microbus. He'd take pictures of the approach, the getaway
The northwest corner, the southwest corner
And that's not to mention the aerial photography."

It certainly does fit in with the 'Summer of Love'. Those were the days - Were they not? Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?

I see you practically have the lines memorized, as did I back in the day. I also remember something to the effect of "You wanna know if I'm moral enough to burn women, kids, houses and villages after being a litterbug"...

One of Jack Nicholson's great moments in film.

And he's had a lot of great moments......

"One of Jack Nicholson's great moments in film."

I don't think it was a BLT. He was ordering in a diner and he wanted a side order of toast.
The waitress: We don't don't offer side orders of toast.

Jack: Do you have bread and a toaster of some kind?

Waitress: Yes, but those are the rules. I don't make the rules around here!

Jack: Let me make this real easy for you. Give me a chicken salad sandwich on toast, hold the chicken salad, bring me a bill for a chicken salad sandwich, and then you haven't broken any rules!

Waitress: Hold the chicken salad? Where do you want me to hold the chicken salad?

Jack: Between your legs.

You're right .... After the discussion of the movie came up, I went to 'the tube' and watched the movie clip. Too funny!

That was a young Jack .... I like it when he clears the table of everythig on it with his arm before they depart/

Plzrmeister.....that is one GREAT pic.....reminds me of some of the ones we did back then and later....not near that erotic.....I very well remember when Alice's Restaurant came out in about Oct 67. I was stationed at N Ft Polk at Tigerland. The song was a protest against the Vietnam War draft so everyone wanted a copy of it. The base px was not allowed to sell it and head & head unit orders were you could not have it displayed in barracks or played loudly. There was a snack bar on n fort and one morning about 10 someone brought a small record player in and unplugged the jukebox and turned on the player with Alice's Restaurant on an old 45 record. The place went wild! As we were leaving here came the MP's.....they cleared the snack bar and took the record player and record. They never did figure out who did it.....thanks for the memories......it was a different time

Plzrmeister replies on 1/30/2024 12:27 pm:
That was indeed a different time .... If I remember right, the Vietnam war was at full blast and we got 'body counts' on TV all the time. Such a waste of life .....

I don't think it would have been a 45 RPM record.... The song was far too long to fit on one of those.

Looking at that VW bus makes me think of Joni Mitchell......Born to take the Highway.

my Thanksgiving Day listening tradition!

Plzrmeister replies on 1/31/2024 6:43 am:
Pretty good tradition I'd say. Is that before or after dinner?

Maybe while you're eating your pumpkin pie?

"Five Easy Pieces" is one of my favorite films. Director Bob Rafelson's classic.
