Somewhere on the internet yesterday, I came across an advertisement espousing something to the effect of "50 things you didn't know you could do with WD-40". I actually watched about half of it and stored away a couple of things in my brain I thought might be helpful in the future.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I've seen other products or items that they show you a gazillion uses for .... Well, maybe not a gazillion, but you know what I mean. If you're on 'the tube' and click on one, they will generally feed you more.

Yeah they will. Click on any subject and you're gonna get fed more and more. There was another one that popped up yesterday about all the things vaseline petroleum jelly was good for. I can think of one thing I know it's good for ....

Me too and that reminds me of a joke...... What do the Germans call Vaseline? Give up? ...... Veener Schlickem

Those Germans do have a sense of humor!

They sure do! Do you know what they call a virgin?

Would that be ..... Goot-n-tite?

Only 25? Get back to me when you've got 50....

Is that what they refer to as 'click bait'?

I attempted to learn German during my time in high school, but unfortunately, I possess nearly zero ability to learn languages.
I was only able to memorize certain phrases, and not much more.
Despite this, I always heard that German is an easy language to learn due to its similarity to English.

I see you agree.

Yes, aside from vaseline and virgin, I also learned the German word for 'bra' ....... Stoppen-Z-Flop.

Probably my favorite German word though is 'Achtung'. There's just something about it ...... It doesn't even need translating into other languages it seems.

Interestingly, a lot of German words are like grunts or barks and are pronounced that way.

Achtung either gets your attention or warns that whoever's addressing you is about to hock a loogie.

Either hocking one up or expelling one!

I suppose it might be mistaken for a sneeze if it was said by a girly man German.

I think the reason 'Achtung' doesn't need translating is we've all
seen the so many war films from a young age.
Of course 'Hände hoch', works aswell.

Plzrmeister replies on 1/31/2024 2:37 pm:
That's a good point about the 'Achtung' in war movies ... Either hearing it or seeing it on signs.

I like 'Schnell' too. Another common word in war movies.

reminds me of the old saw...

the rich man uses vaseline
the poor man uses lard
the truck man uses axle grease
and gets his twice as hard

The 'working man' knows his stuff!

Those truckers .... A crafty bunch!
