I'm not exactly sure when it began, but it seems like it's been quite a while ago. One used to hear and see the term 'Political Correctness', but its usage seems to have significantly diminished - Maybe it's just my imagination. What seems to be very prevalent in society now is a person being 'offended' or 'triggered'.

I hear you. It seems to me that as I grew up, most people knew what was 'offensive' behavior ... We all knew rude people and/or witnessed rude behavior .... We could generally all agree it was wrong. Nowadays it seems you can offend someone or trigger them by the most innocuous behavior or words. Hell, even having your own opinion can set someone off.

I know - Right? Remember the phrase "I disagree with what you're saying, but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it"? What happened to that idea? Once upon a time, didn't the ACLU fight for the right of NAZI types to march - Was it in Illinois? Is that my imagination? I'm sure we all abhor the thought of NAZIs marching, yet we knew they had a right to.

I think I remember that. Now the ACLU seems to sit on their hands a lot of the time and has become political ... What a shame. I admire Dave Chappelle .... His comedy routine offends a lot of people because so many people have lost their sense of humor. He doesn't care and makes fun of the people he triggers..... OK - Blog over - Get some food for thought, or are you gonna flame me and set me straight? Get my mind right as the warden might say ....

I think the old "political correctness" has morphed into being "woke".

That is an astute observation .... I think you're right.

One word instead of two ... efficiency!

All I know is that it has become tiresome

Gawd .... Ain't that the truth. It seems people used to have the ability to brush things off rather than get all butt-hurt.

I know. Good grief people - Loosen up a little.

I still don't understand the need for labels. I remember when gay used to mean happy.

OK .... Just to clarify, if you wouldn't care to use either 'Political Correctness' or 'woke' .... what verbiage would you use instead?

Isn't 'gay' a label itself when used as meaning happy? Utilizing labels seems an essential part of communication.

actions and feelings are all confused.

Something is certainly haywire ....

I'm not sure, but I perceive the pendulum is swinging back the other direction a little. It needs to find an equilibrium.

Develop a thick skin, it's needed for peaceful coexistence.

In a word .... 'Bingo!'.

Roger that. Far too many people have become too thin skinned.
I'm reminded of a quote by John Wayne ... "Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid" .... Substituting 'thin skinned' for 'stupid' works pretty well.

There are many who do not want to coexist, at least not peacefully.

I have noticed. There is so much electronic media that bombards us every minute of every day and they all seem to have an agenda. I miss people like Walter Cronkite. His agenda was the presentation of events backed by just the facts.

"That's absolutely correct. He was a genuine journalist who reported the events accurately. For instance, if a plane crashed, he would inform you about the time, location, and what the local authorities had to say about it. He would never give his personal opinion on how or why the incident occurred."
