If you drive, you do it to one extent or another. When I'm driving in town, I'm in no particular hurry, yet when I'm on the open highway I tend to want to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible - Within reason. Going 10 MPH over the posted speed is fairly normal for me. If someone passes me when I'm doing so, I consider them my 'pace car' and will join in behind them as long as they haven't been shot out of a cannon. I figure if there's a police car up ahead, they'll focus on them and not me.

I saw on the news where some state ( CA? ) was considering requiring all cars to be equipped with 'governors' on the engines at some point in the future. I'm not sure that is gonna fly with the public? I remember my sister and I driving a U-Haul truck from TX to ID years ago and it had a governor which cut the engine back if you exceeded 55 MPH. What a royal pain in the ass!

As the meme would indicate, I know many cities have the means to monitor speed and mail out traffic violations for speeding and maybe even running a red light, etc. Big Brother is watching! I'm not sure whether or not they have that here in Boise, but like I said, I behave when driving in town.

I'm not sure whether they do or not either. It would seem an easy source of revenue for local governments, as well as theoretically promote safe driving/safety. If I ever do get a traffic violation mailed to me, this would be a very clever way of responding ... At first. Then I'd mail in the price of admission, so to speak.

You can get cheaper insurance if you let the insurance company monitor your driving habits. That totally creeps me out. No thanks. You sound like you drive kind of how I drive. lol

The only use I see for utilizing that capability of the insurance company would be if you had a child driving their own vehicle and you were paying for their insurance. If they drive safely, you continue paying. If they don't ....... well, that's self explanatory.

"Incentives are important ...... I learned that in rehab." That's a line from the movie 'Captain Ron'. If you've never seen it, do yourself a favor ........

I will tend to "push" the speed limit on the open highway but with all the winter visitors and tourists here right now it's tough to even go the speed limit.

Must be a lot of congestion .... The season is nearing its end I think though.

Yeah .... Back to pedal to the metal soon.

I like that 10 mph over on the highway. It is almost at the level of known cultural acceptance.

What annoys me are two types of cops.
One that goes the exact speed limit and nobody passes him.
Secondly, the one that flies past you, but without lights on.
Lights on, cool, off not so much.

A pox on the cop who goes the exact speed limit I think they probably do that just to f*ck with people.

What about the cop that follows you on the highway so that you have to go the exact speed limit .... Then passes you after 20 miles or so. WTF!

That 'cultural acceptance' obviously extends over the pond.
As I would say that's what most people in the UK do too.
10 mph on top out of town.

Over here most young people have to accept monitoring by their
insurance company when the start off. Otherwise, either they can't
afford the fees, or sometimes their not accepted at any price without it.
One young man had a sticker in his back window.
"Please be patient, speed monitored by insurance company.
You're pissed off? - Think how I feel!"

With regard to governers. I read a few years back, with more & more
new cars coming with built in Satnav, & computer intergration.
It would soon be possible for cars to limit themselves to what ever speed
limit they happened to be in at the time.
Speeding? - Not allowed!

I wonder if this idea will ever catch on with the insurance companies over here. From the insurance company's standpoint, I can understand the logic.

I can understand if people want to regulate their own speed, but for the government to do it - No thinks. How in the hell are you supposed to pass someone? It seems unsafe to me ....
