I'm wondering at what age the good people of the peanut gallery got interested in BDSM I suppose there might be a difference between actual real life involvement and first knowing you were submissive or Dominant. There might also be a completely different time when you saw something that enthralled you or made you feel something inside you didn't quite understand.

You mean like seeing Snidely Whiplash tying Sweet Polly Purebread to the railroad tracks and getting excited? Perhaps playing cowboys & Indians and tying someone up or to a tree, etc.? Through the years I've read where many people say they first felt something from a TV show .... and it generally involved someone being tied up or chained to something.

I didn't get involved with BDSM until I came across it on the internet many moons ago. I saw some photos and it was 'lights out' .... The genie was out of the bottle. I always knew I was an Alpha type male that enjoyed being in charge ... Be that at work or in my personal life. I suppose I combined my Alpha and my sex life in my 40's. Prior to that? Total vanilla.

I hear ya .... I was the same way regarding being a natural Alpha. Senior Class President in high school - President at my Fraternity in college - President of my current Townhomes Association. I've just always naturally seemed to rise to the top wherever I'm at or whatever I'm doing. I don't really put in any effort - I'm just me. Swelled head? I don't know - you'll have to decide.

I had BDSM feelings probably back in around 3rd grade. It wasn't because of anything I saw on TV or real life, I just had those feelings naturally.

Swelled head, or just full of yourself? Hard to say from what you've written. But if you just sort of "luck into" those positions, then I'd say neither swollen head nor fullness of self applies.

3rd grade .... Wow, it did come upon you at an early age.

In hindsight, people have always asked me to run for the offices I've held. I'll also admit I do think I can do things better than most other people .... I'd call it self confidence.

I always knew that women were my preference but the first time I said "Yes, Ma'am" my heartbeat was like Sheila E was inside me!

Growing up an Army brat, I was always required to say "Yes Sir" or "Yes Ma'am". Didn't strike a chord with me.

Sheila E? Who's that?

I think my journey towards exploring BDSM was also a slow process for me, which I attribute to my age. During my teenage years, from 1960 to 1970, limited options were available for such exploration. Even TV shows and movies depicted couples sleeping in separate beds. My access to Playboy magazines depended on acquiring a lucky friendship. Science fiction and fantasy books, especially the Gor novels, opened up a new world for me and kept me turning the pages. Appealing to such a small audience, these authors could get away with thoughts not often found in written works. My parents thought it was all robots and spaceships so I could openly read this stuff.

Like you, I led a vanilla life until my forties when the internet took off in the 90s. With some fortunate relationships with some lovely kinksters, my views became more focused and solidified.

Plzrmeister replies on 4/6/2024 10:44 am:
Yes, the internet led many people into a whole new world. Truth be told, finding ALT put my journey on warp speed.

Mine too .... It made things 'real' once you knew others were just like you and you could communicate with them.

I think it was in Boy Scout camp, practicing knot typing and lashing.

"One Big Sky Covers Us All Equally"

Plzrmeister replies on 4/6/2024 10:48 am:
I wanted to join the Boy Scouts when we lived at Ft. Rucker, AL. There was actually an entrance exam where I had to tie the knots shown in the Scout's Manual. I couldn't tie all of them, so I was told to "Study more and come back and try again".

I thought "I want to be a Scout and you're going to make me jump through hoops? Thanks but no thanks." ........ Asshole.

Late very late and it happened in a way that someone else pointed out to me that I might be leaning towards some other than just vanilla stuff, I was totally unaware of my sexuality, needs, etc... so late 40s' I'd say that it has become conscious.

You opened Pandora's Box and now there's no going back. Is it OK to send that person a Thank You card?

Late 40's? Goodness, you're a relative newcomer to the lifestyle. Welcome to the club!

Sheila E? Who's that? She's a drummer/percussionist, who performed with Prince.

Plzrmeister replies on 4/7/2024 5:58 am:
No wonder I didn't know who she was....

Who's Prince?

I was into nude bondage and exposure since third grade.
But I didn't know the first thing about birds and bees.
And I didn't know other people were into it as well.
So it was quite an innocent thing. Though I felt I should keep it a secret.

Plzrmeister replies on 4/7/2024 5:59 am:
Third grade ... That would have made you in the 9 year old category ... Shazam. Early start to things.

I think I was into marbles then.

Yeah ... That's got to be it.

Indeed.

I was eighteen when I read Nine and a Half Weeks. That book opened a door in my subconscious The man I dated after that was a very Alpha personality sexually. We experimented with light kink and after that, I was off to the races. What followed was a fifteen-year relationship with my ex-dominant

"Men need to hunt. She obviously understands this. She’s offering herself as prey. Not easy prey. But willing.”

Plzrmeister replies on 4/13/2024 4:58 am:
You got out of the gates at an early age. I remember the movie 9 1/2 weeks and what a fox I considered Kim Basinger. Erotic as it was, it didn't unleash the 'beast' inside me. The years I wasted!!!!!!

You're right, Kim was 'hawt'. I can relate to the "off to the races" once one dips their toes into the water.... It's like something grabs your leg and pulls you underwater - In a fun way, of course.
