I've noticed in the not too distant past that TV advertisers have many times gone with ladies who are on the, shall we say, 'heavier' side. I know this is an attempt to not portray all women as pencil thin .... the stereotype from days gone by. I'm sure this permeates the advertising industry in magazines too, as well as other areas.

Speaking of advertising, is Madison Avenue still the hub for that? In any event, yeah I know what you mean and I've noticed it on TV ads too. I do think it's an attempt to get away from all women looking like models and portraying women in a more realistic manner. It's now being drilled into society that beauty comes in all sizes .... That's probably a good thing.

I know recently LIzzo has been in the news. She apparently got, or gets, a lot of 'fat shaming' and she got fed up and quit .... temporarily. She's a big girl for sure, but that's her business. Is being really overweight healthy? Of course not, but neither are a lot of other things people do .... So live and let live.

It's the opposite of 'Twiggy' .... for those of us who remember her. It's probably a good thing the advertising world got away from pushing that body type. Come to think of it, it seems advertisements are now in the 'Inclusion' mode. More lifestyle choices are now shown, not to mention handicapped ( challenged? ) people. Personally, I think it's a good thing. Out with the stereotypes and in with the 'real world'.

I remember trying to raise two daughters and helping them understand that "real" women do not look like the ones on the cover of Vogue.
Something about if you are looking for a "real" man, then looking like a "real" woman is a good start.
Oh, well....

Yes, young girls growing up have enough to deal with other than trying to emulate fashion models. Give me a natural girl in a baseball cap any day.

No kidding ....

I remember those Twiggy days......it was those big eyes on a stick. I will say that a Rubenesque woman will get a second glance from me

Funny how things go in cycles .... The classic Renaissance paintings are of Rubenesque women. No twiggys in them.

I don't mind some meat on the bone, but a lizzo type gets no glances.

Nothing wrong with fat, but I still trim it off my steak. I usually add some pepper and butter to it.

I agree that advertisements have become more inclusive, as you mentioned. However, I think their motivation is largely financial rather than a desire to promote equality.
Advertisers have realized the benefits of expanding their market by portraying diverse individuals using their products.
If they can see themselves in the Ad they can see themselves with whatever is the product. Cha ching!

But, I am a cynical fellow.
