It seems you either love cats or you want nothing to do with them - Why is that? Personally I'm a cat person and whenever I could, I've had a least one. Right now, I have two ...... Chunky ( F ) and Cap'n ( M ). We got both from the Humane Society - at different points in time - when they were kittens ..... approximately two years ago. They are, of course, the best of friends and also love and play with our two dogs.

One of the comments I hear/read from non-cat people is that cats don't have any personality. If you've ever owned a cat, you know that's not true. They have a ton of personality .... It's perhaps more subtle than a dogs, but it's there. My two are completely different from one another, but they both have me trained in different ways. Let's take Cap'n for instance .... He wakes me up each morning within a stone's throw of 0430. I know, I know - but I'm used to it now.

Yeah .... The little turd. He lays down by my head and 'paws' my nose. If I look at the digital clock and it's at least 0420, I get up. If it's not, I'll tell him "No". It's like hitting the pause button on an alarm clock - He gives me about ten minutes and then the pawing begins anew. He wants me up and at em because the cats get canned food once a day and it's in the morning. It actually works out pretty well because I get the cats their canned food and then the dogs go out for a walk around the block.

Yeah .... I'm sure the dogs love it because they get to relieve themselves and then go back to sleep .... just as the cats do. I'm the one who's up for the duration. Make some coffee and then sit here and write a blog - The routine is pretty set. The two cats have us trained in other ways too, but that's the morning ritual. If you own, or have ever owned cats, you know the meme is true .... They're good trainers until they have their life just the way they want it.

I must not have had enough coffee yet .... I don't get it.

I'm not sure if I do either ..... Unless that's 'pest'?

i like when she dresses up as a cat.... i wonder if that definition applies then : )

You'd have to be the judge of that.

Does she paw your nose to awaken you?

I always had cats and they have plenty of personality!

Tons of personality. Cap'n is in a league of his own.

You got that right.

I've had both cats and dogs. I enjoy both, but cats are much easier to care for and less needy.

One attribute that separates the two pets is the meaning of tail wagging, an important distinction.

When a dog wags its tail they are usually happy and excited.
When a cat wags its tail, they are not. Not at all.

Plzrmeister replies on 4/26/2024 3:02 pm:
Yeah ... When a cat wags its tail, that generally means it's irritated about something.

And irritating them doesn't take much. Dogs can almost beat you to death with theirs when they're happy....

I had cats, a few, when I was a kid, and later, and one when my son was still a kid... one thing in common is that they were all different, completely different personalities and characters, much like people—no two of the same kind.

Plzrmeister replies on 4/26/2024 3:08 pm:
Yes, they all have their very distinct personalities. Cap'n is the epitome of the lap cat .... Chunky has no use for a lap at all.

Yeah .... And you barely ever hear Chunky meow or make a peep. Cap'n has regular conversations with you in a low soft meow.

"I am a proud parent of two adorable cats who bring immense joy to my life. The first cat I adopted and had her for a few years. She is a beautiful white Tortoiseshell cat with piercing green eyes that have a calming effect on me. I love how she carries herself with poise and grace.

Then, I thought she could use a friend, so I got a kitten. The kitten is a mutt with a mix of Siamese and Maine Coon breed. Her fur is a beautiful blend of brown and black, with patches of white on her chest and paws. I adore her big round eyes that sparkle with mischief and playfulness.

These two cats are extremely different in temperament and personality, but they have had me trained from day one. They know how to get my attention and demand my affection when they want it. But I love it because holding a soft, cuddly animal that loves you back is the best feeling in the world."

"Men need to hunt. She obviously understands this. She’s offering herself as prey. Not easy prey. But willing.”

You write so eloquently about your cats and your love for them is readily apparent. Cap'n has that mischievous look in his eyes and he is FULL of it. He's developed a game in the last couple of weeks .... He likes to knock/pull magnets off the side of the refrigerator.

Yeah ... And when they hit the floor, he jumps off the counter and scurries into the garage.

Holding a soft, cuddly animal that loves you back is the best feeling in the world."

You hit that nail squarely on the head.
