racism in star wars

Hi all,

I read this article last night where the author literally was chomping at the bit to find "racism" in the new star wars movie.

She even dared to compare the film to the book/movie "roots" and suggest there is a "slave overtone" to it.

Well if you look hard enough your bound to find something to bitch about in a movie.

My question today is why do people assume a movie is "progressive" just because it stars a black male actor in the lead and a white woman? I mean come on folks this isn't like 1980. Why is star wars heralded as "inclusive" just because it stars a black lead?

To which I have no problem with that/I don't have a problem with a black male lead/ a black guy dating a white woman or an onscreen romance. To me skin color or one's sexuality has little to do with the movie..

It's seems to be the easy combo for hollywood to show how accepting they are. Yet I find it funny (and rare) to see a white male lead with a black female co star/love interest.
Isn't that depriving black women from getting leading roles? Why does the love interest always have to be white women?
( and please don't blame the white audience..there are plenty of white people that are into black women/have no problem watching them on screen) Black actress matter too#

Look at any commercials/tv shows/movies.. if hollywood wants to represent a mixed couple it is 99 percent of the time black man and white woman.( and the ofcourse is always definitely black ( no mixed allowed .. they will never feature a white )...

and for that matter why does the black actress always have to be a size zero and have "white features" to be accepted? Why are there no 200 lbs plus black women in star wars? Apparently they aren't good enough to fights for the rebellion?

Also why can't we have a black male lead and a black female lead in star wars?

Why is it always white male characters being replaced by black actors? Yet you don't see white female characters being replaced by black female actresses..
I mean the whole point is to free up more openings for black actors..then why no black actresses? Why is the white woman in flims a sacred cow?

I mean why can't wonderwoman be black? ( The amazon tribe ( if they really existed wouldn't be white folks.. ) She would be black

Why is it okay to replace "whitey" johney storm with Michael Jorden..yet sue storm has to remain white? ( even though they are brother and sister) Is hollywood afraid of strong black female actresses? or is it because hollywood is cool with the black white combo?

Just seems to be people are quick to scream racism...yet allow other forms of racism because it seems like the accepted norm.

Why is there no mention of say gay people in the star wars universe? apparently being gay isn't a factor in the future? Yet Disney will never cross that barrier..

Disney follows that tried and true formula all the way to the bank ( empowered female who is part super ninja/part xena/part jedi etc) ... a goofy side kick ( usually a lil sister/robot/pet and an incompetent male love interest. ( soo yeah..why does she need the male for?)
