what ever happened to customer service? or my dealings with the Gecko

Don't know about you, but the one thing that really chaps my ass in this world is a companies' lack of customer service.

Perhaps I was just "spoiled"..perhaps I come from an older generation... but in my day customer service meant just that. I worked for toyrus for over 8 years and we literally bent over backwards to accommodate the customer.
We took the phrase " the customer is always right to heart"...sure occasionally we took it in the shorts and got screwed....but we made the company alot of money as well.
We did our jobs and made the customer happy...we had plenty of repeat business.

So I tend to get hott under the collar when a company dicks me around....

In this case I am dealing with my car insurance company ( geico).. I phoned them multiple times yesterday asking two simple questions:
1. I'm a perfect driver...so why did my rates go up
2. if say state farms matched my geico policy word for word..what else does geico have going for them/what advantages are there to staying with the company. Basically if policy talk was off the board...why should I stay with your company?

You'd think these associates would be able to actually string together a though and pull a useful answer out of their ass.. (it really is easy..they could have said customer service..I mean that is where the fuck you WORK!!!!)

NOPE..they all wanted to dive back into my policy and tell me how great it is..
It really became a circular argument..

I'd expect that from sales...but not customer service. Hell the one girl even went into a sales pitch about bundling my home owners with my car insurance to save money.

I called her on it...I literally did.. I told her I called to ask a simple answer and you switched up to your sales pitch? ( really?) Did you read that off your script?

So last night ( being old school) I wrote the company a complaint...
( yeah I know that will reallllly work)
and I got a canned email reply this morning...complete with the scare tactic of " if you shop your policy around, you have to watch out...other companies are out to scam you! ( like geico doesn't???)

So me ..being me.. I wrote a complaint about the complaint dept..( like I said this is me just being me.....don't poke the honey badger..cause honey badger don't give a fuck)

I told them you've also FAILED to answer my 2 simple questions and I feel that canned replies are indicative of a large corporation that doesn't care about the customer.
At least with state farm I can go into a local office and actually talk with a real life human being.
I used "state farm" because it is their direct competitor and they are losing market shares to..
I also suggested that instead of bleeding good customers to pay off the companies' bottomline, perhaps Geico should just out source the complaint dept to save money ( I can only imagine how well that went over)

Long story short....the days of good customer service are GONE...I use to bitch about companies' outsourcing these departments to India.
BUT honestly...the people of India have always been friendly and helpful on the phone...( Imagine that) Noone in india ever resorted to reading a sale pitch to me.

So perhaps america gets what the fuck it deserves..

You can't bleed the good customers to make your company more competitive for the bad ones....it reeks of socialism.

So I'm gonna print out my policy and all it's deets ( details) and shop it around..

Remember the good ole days when companies actually cared about retaining customers....
BUT they have all developed the "yahoot " phiolosophy of business.. don't care who the fuck they piss off because there will always be new customers ( most likely in china and india ) to replace the old ones.

Perhaps I am just getting old or they stopped caring

Do you have any idea how much money Geico spends on advertising their stupid little lizard?? Think of the hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted on tv and radio ads with that stupid varmint pushing it's "15 minutes COULD save you UP TO 15%" crap!!

What a hoax!! I stopped using
Geico decades ago! , and found an independent insurance agent...(one that sells policies from many licensed insurance carriers). Now Geico, and all similar insurance giants can kiss my---!!!

I've had gecko for 40+ years. The few times I've called, they've always been helpful. Gecko has a few storefront offices; there should be one or more in KC.

If the rep to whom you speak isn't answering your questions, ask to speak to a supervisor. This usually does the job; not long ago I has to escalate a towing claim and it did the trick.

Customer service at the local water company is who chafes my ass. They just can't seem to understand that there is no way they could have read the water meter when there is so much crap over the cover. Then when I insist they read it they try to charge me for it.....
