the little things - resolutions progress report

Creating new habits, big or small, is a beneficial act. Trying to rid oneself of old, bad habits is also a smart thing to do. When I started working on my resolutions for 2021 in December of last year (2020), I had a few specific things in mind, and most of them seemed fairly banal yet undeniably important. Things like doing push-ups, or oil pulling every morning didn’t feel essential, but close to it. I knew I needed to make positive changes, big or small, and felt I chose some pretty small ones to work on.

As it turns out, it’s the little things that have been the hardest to accomplish, but the gratification I feel (as well as the ) outweighs that greatly. The pride I experience from a job well done sustains me, and drives me to keep doing what needs to be done, day after day, until it becomes a habit I practically have to talk myself out of. And so I’ve been working on all these little things, making them happen, and in the process kind of feeling a snowball effect. The triumphs multiply, and before you know it I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot, instead of being left with the impression I’m not doing much of anything at all. It’s a fine line with me, because I am really the only person and reason keeping me motivated. Patting myself on the back is the best I can expect.

For March, I managed to add a few good habits to my routine, but as I said, they are small. I did finally start work on my daily routine, attempting to map out my waking hours for maximum efficiency and output. As a result, my exercise became more regular, and I have a schedule that seems to fit the majority of my needs. In addition to oil pulling every morning, I have added a few things like fish oil, vitamins, and previously mentioned l-lysine. For better dental care I am now brushing with something that will my enamel, and is infused with charcoal to aid in erasing stains. My diet is consistent, and I rarely skip a day of fasting, which usually lasts / hours or more now. And since I managed to get my camera functioning again I’m back to filming nearly every day, which is also an excellent habit to get back into. As for the bad habits I’ve been trying to get rid of, the only thing I can boast about is a cessation of the shopping routine. I’ve managed to narrow it down to just books and DVDs, and I’m not going to any great distances any time soon. If I can’t find it in my local thrift store I am not going to worry about it. Heck, even my marijuana purchasing is happening locally, where the prices and selection aren’t that great, but I don’t have to do 50 / fifty miles round trip to achieve that. So maybe add a little bit of self control to those other little accomplishments.

There were little adjustments to things that have made my life better. Small yet consistent new habits started that will benefit me greatly. Tiny yet significant accomplishments that mean something, no matter how you look at them. I am proud of my March, and plan on stepping it up a bit more for April. Sometimes it’s the little things that can mean so much.
