 The English language is humorous if not completely stupid. So who are the idiots who sit in an ivory tower and play scrabble with language. I hate the term "politically correct" because it has nothing to do with politics. Somehow the bottom line on all this has got to be about money, but I can't figure how that works. Merry Christmas.

i think that words became "politically correct" or "politically incorrect" when their use by a politician increased or decreased their chances of being ravaged and/or demonized in the Op/Ed pages of newspapers. Now-a-days, since newspapers are dying and every "news" program on TV is actually a series "sound bites" followed by opinion pieces generated by woke "reporters," tiptoeing through their speeches becomes even more important.

And yes. That IS an old Christmas pic. Dressing as "Santa Slut" is about the only time that i wear those boots anymore.

i don't think that the meaning has changed. Being able to live a hedonistic lifestyle pretty much demands a surplus of money. And the gap between rich and poor here in the USA has been growing steadily wider over the last few decades. Frankly, i see that (and the new "progressive" permissiveness) as signs of the surety that "The Fall of the American Empire" is well under way. i am glad that i am old because i probably won't be around to see it crash.

But "Upstate" is a pretty big area. i am in the western Finger Lakes. (A little over 1 hour from Rochester and 2 from Syracuse. 45 minutes from Corning. The local zip is 14893 if that helps any.)
