It was not fair!! A while ago, i was at a second hand shop, they sell the nicest things. Outside there was this group of people, talking with each other, all with bikes... This one woman, asks me, do you like to go on a bike ride in a group? I though; hmm, maybe this could be a nice thing to do, meeting new people, at the same time? So, last tuesday i am at the spot. I forgot to pumb up my tires, so i ask for a bicycle pumb at that shop. Pumbing my tires, then one of the man, tries to take the pump from me, to do the pumbing. Did not ask if he could help, nothing! That rubs me the wrong way.... Instantly! So, i tell this person, i can do this perfectly on my own. Did i ask for help? If i "need" a man to pumb my tires, it is not a good sign. Right, that man was just trying to be the macho! Yuck! So he overwhelms an other woman and she bent over and lies down, so to say... Pfffff After this little intermezzo, the group decide where to go.... Not just a riding the forests around this place, nó! They want go ride about 45 km. Are you mad!! So i ask them, how long this ride will take, 2, 5 hour, they tell me....  I am thinking, if i dont like it, i can always turn around and be done with it. SO without futher deliberation, they go! All of them, were on E bikes, All of them, where at least, more or less 20 kilo too fat! They where all on full speed! They were already at the end of the street, and i was not even halfway! Fullspeed! Yeah, they can ride a route of 40 something, kilometers too!! Without using their own muscle! It was not even possible to call to the first bikers! So, i told the woman, next to me; they want me dead! I dont like this at all! I am making my own route! and went left, instead of right on. This was just not fair!!  I did not like their attitude at all, me, being the new person in the group.... And, the only one, without an E bike!

I went left and got a very nice bike ride, met a very nice man, who helped me with my bike, to cross a very small bridge. Only made for walkers.... Otherwise i would have ended in the very dirty water of that stream! Probably under my bike! LOL

rider, They were not nice to me, at all. Very egoistic, All on their E bikes! riding like the devil was chasing them! Asking new people, to come along and then, totally ignoring me...? I had a great ride on my own, did find all kind of new routes.

I am not sure about the company that you abandoned but, having one myself, I can recommend an E-bike !!!!! Sometimes your own company is best ?

Riding an E-bike is no kind of exercise.

i think you should be careful and look for someone that is willing to meet and get down on getting to know you better before you go for a ride.

Yes, certainly not fair to invite you along & then race off because they have the power to do so. Anyway, much better for you to use your own muscle power.

sorry your experience wasn't so great - ebikes are bringing in a new group of riders. In my time riding with a cycling club, I found them friendly and they made a nice group to regularly see. Often the rides are "no drop" and if you can't keep up, someone will help you get safely home. I can attest that if a woman cyclist has a mechanical, men will start to arrive from all directions. I've seen it many times.

boh, Yes, i hoped this was such a group, but not..... ANd, having a vagina does not mean, i cant pump up my own bike tubes!!?? That assumption! yeagh~! I gave maintenance courses for women, how the repare your bike..... Having a vagina does not equals does not know how to use her brains!

drmgirl, Exactly. This one man, advised me, to NOT buy one, because you are hooked.! He had one too, but always ride in the lowest power.... So, he still had to use his muscles.

lancylad, The man i met on the way, told me exactly the opposite! DOnt ever buy a E bike, before you know it, you are hooked! Indeed, i am my own best company, although i did meet that nice man, on the way. Maybe, when i meet that man, again, he and i can take a ride in the forest, together..? .  Taking it easy, watch nature, around us.....

rider If "everyone" has a attitude, do you have one, too?  I know, i do have one, sometimes, it all depends on who i meet...and how they behave themselfs. how they act towards me....

An e-bike is only good for getting home when you're tired - to use it like an electric moped defeats the concept of exercise. I use mine in normal riding mode to go places, and only turn on the assist when I'm tiring on the journey back. D-J xx

davina That is a wise way, to use the E bike. Or when you go up hill? maybe? They are much heavier then normal bikes! to handle, balance.... and to lift. My rides in the woods, is sometimes on rough grounds, sometimes i have to lift my bike, move it around.... All very, lovely physical actions!
