Transgender Healthcare Taking healthcare away from a segment of our society in the middle of a pandemic is much like putting a knee on their neck! The Trump administration announced yesterday it is eliminating an Obama-era regulation prohibiting discrimination in health care against patients who are transgender. Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, known as the Health Care Rights Law, "prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability in certain health programs and activities." A rule enacted in 2016 interpreted the ban on sex discrimination to include discrimination on the basis of gender identity, building on similar interpretations in other federal civil rights laws and court rulings, and termination of pregnancy. But the US Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement yesterday that it was eliminating "certain provisions of the 2016 Rule that exceeded the scope of the authority delegated by Congress in Section 1557. HHS will enforce Section 1557 by returning to the government's interpretation of sex discrimination according to the plain meaning of the word 'sex' as male or female and as determined by biology." |

Hi Uncommon, I've read a lot of your posts in the last few months and I wanted to thank you for the info you report. You seem to cut thru rumor and innuendo like a knife through butter. Though I at first glossed over the subject of this post, your second comment brought to my mind the words of a German Pastor during the time of Nazi Germany. The one who remarked that when the Nazis rounded up various groups, he not being one of those groups, did not object. Then, they came for him, and there was nobody left to object. Thanks again for the reminder. We are all involved in trying to perfect this American experiment and form that more perfect union. Hopefully, we will kick that orange bum out of the White House this November and start to correct the destruction he has brought.

If you want to have surgery to make yourself look like a woman, then pay for it with your own money. Taxpayers should not have to pay for that, just like they should not pay for somebody's face lift, or liposuction, or any other cosmetic surgery.

Cosmetic surgery: Most insurance plans did not cover cosmetic surgery before the Affordable Care Act, and that hasn't changed. But some plans do cover plastic surgery if it's needed for a medical reason.
