That applies to much in life but seems especially so here. The people we meet, the experiences we have, the moments we share are here and then not here. This is neither good nor bad; it just is.
And for those whose time here is more than than - well, bless your hearts and count yourselves among the lucky few.

I Have Limits

I am a Dom and - yes - I have limits. I rarely get asked because my partner's limits are usually in sync with my own. Still, it is good for me to acknowledge them.
1. No
2. No scat; no enemas
3. Cross-dressing (just doesn't appeal to me)
4. Infantalism (same as cross-dressing - just doesn't appeal)
5. Piss play/urine
6. Animals/beastiality.
And that raises the issue of snuff. I have had a couple of scenes. It is not my favorite. And prefer to leave it at the pain and humiliation stage.
That might be all - at least that I know about or understand enough about to make a decision about.

The Words we Claim ...

I think I have nattered about this way too much but words are really all we have to go on here so we should choose them wisely and be prepared to stand by them. This is not always easy. And it is not unusual for there to be a disconnect between what we write, the context in which we wrote it, and the many realities in which those words can be interpreted (think of foundational documents in US history).
I try to stand by the words I claim and to own up when I don't.
So, profile and intro writers, including me, take care in what you write and what you are prepared to stand behind. The three nits that annoy me the most?
If you want local only, then for goodness sake, write Local only or In Real Life only. If you don't do this then do not get touchy when some approaches you who is not local.
If you want to chat online, then for goodness sake, chat online, and don't then say but you live too far away. What does the one have to do with the other (unless all you want is IR ?
And don't say "I am looking for a real Dom (or Sub)" and then not respond if contacted politely and with courtesy. It takes no time to reply "Thanks but no thanks" and heaven forfend if at this point you say - "Oops, IRL only".
I am sure there are many others and I'd love to hear them.
(And don't even get me started about ghosting. But that's a whole other subject.)

Too Much Free Time

I am retired - yes! - and have a pretty active life that includes reading, playing and listening to music, walks, crossword puzzles, and the occasional lunch or dinner with friends. But that still leaves me with *a lot* of free time and I spend (too) much of that here. Now, that isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does mean I have to manage hopes and expectations. That I am here a lot and can usually reply to messages in real time does not mean others can. So, I have to be understanding and patient - the latter not always easy to do - and let things unfold as they will. And, maybe, get a new hobby to fill the days, although I have developed a flair for recreational napping, and perhaps that will suffice.

Like Gutman, I am a man who likes to talk to people who like to talk. So, not interested in a scene but are interested in conversation? I am a good talker - and a better listener.

This is the beginning of the Days of Awe - the days froim the Jewish New Year through Yom Kippur. Happy New Year.
We (Jews) traditionally ask for forgiveness for our wrongdoings from God and from our fellow human beings during this time. So, to those whom I have wronged here - on Alt - please forgive me my transgression. I hope to do better.

Scenes -- We Are a Team

I am a team-player; always have been. I try - really try - to acknowledge the contributions made by others in pursuit of a common goal. Shoot, when my dermatologist looked at how well a scar from surgery looked, I was quick to say "I have a good surgeon."
This absolutely applies to the scenes I participate in here. I always try to talk to my scene partner *before* we start, am open to suggestions when the scene is in progress, and offer words of thanks and appreciation during and certainly after the scene is over.
After all, it takes the two of us to make the scene work in a way that is mutually satisfactory so why not be open about it and give credit and thanks where it is due.
I am not sure how my partners respond or react to this - if this makes me a partner they want to be with again or not - but I feel better for offering a tip of my proverbial cap to their active participation and creativity.

"Ghost" messages

I have seen an increase in these. I get an alert saying that I have a new message - the little mailbox confirms this - but there is no message to be found. I go to the account where Alt sends notifications and there is a notice that I have received a message. I go back to my mailbox and search and - nothing. Then I have to write to the person and say "Hi, I got a notice that you sent me a message (attached below) but I can't find it. Please resend." (I do this because basic courtesy and civility require me to do so.
Sometimes I get a reply; usually there is no reply.
I have reported this to Alt and all I back is "We have not been able to duplicate the problem." Groan.
Has this happened to others? How do you handle it?
9/11/23 -- Noticed others on Alt are reporting this - maybe it will persuade the Alt tech stuff to find the cause and fix it.
