I write stories - a lot of them - and some of them I like and others not so much, but mostly they spring from my imagination. Recently, some members of our illustrious community have asked me to write stories for them based on an idea/situation they have (In the Woods) or to include a type of person they know (Music Festival). I was happy to do this and welcome the opportunity to so for others. (I have one in-progress, in fact.) Caveat - There are many, many better writers than me on Alt and if you can find them and read their work you will be glad you did.

I wonder if there are too many groups for the number of people who are active on Alt for all of them to be adequately used and supported. And, if not, at what point do the group owners/moderators just turn out the lights, lock the door, and close shop? Just curious.

I have been thinking too much lately about mortality - that we all die - and that we don't know when that will happen. The impetus is a recent diagnosis of bladder cancer and while the outlook is good, it is still cancer. So, I have recalibrated and no longer think of months and weeks or even days but of this day and this moment and do not question the decisions I make: a second donut? - sure; a nap or two during the day? - absolutely; time on Alt? - why not; a good cigar? - you bet. And if there is something in my life that is not fun or satisfying I wish it a fond farewell - there is just no time for it. Sometimes this can be perceived as rudeness or incivility and for that I apologize. But, it is my time and when all is said and done, the only person I am responsible to for how I use that time is me. And I really believe that carpe diem has to be taken as a call to action and not simply a phrase to invoke. I will try. Perhaps we all should.

I do not know the demographics on Alt and base this simply on my wandering from room to room, but it seems to me there are way more men here than women. That makes every day ladies' day. For the most part, that means they get to pick and choose who they will contact, respond to, play with, etc. This is neither good, nor bad; it just is. It is also my sense - again based only on observation and experience - that men are far more likely to take the first step via DM or IM - reinforcing what some of us remember as traditional and accepted gender roles from a long time ago. I am curious to hear from others about this.
