Advice Line?

This should be changed to the Commentary Line. 75% of the so called "questions" are anything but people looking for answers about bdsm or the lifestyle.
The majority of these posts are people advertising themselves or petty bickering amongst the members.
Most of the members on the AL are helpful, caring people. But there are just enough small minded people to ruin it.
But I do admit to paying close attention whenever Alt.com is the subject!

Lifestyle or Play

I am interested in knowing to what degree Alt members are into bdsm & D/s.
Scening & kinky play are it for me!
I eventually want to try it as a lifestyle.
Tried it as a lifestyle, didn't like it. Back to playing!
Nothing fits me better than the lifestyle!

The "gift " of submission.

Submission is no more a gift than domination. One needs the other, plain & simple. Yes, we all must be choosy especially if we are in it for more than play. But that is using discretion, not the mistaken (and arrogant) pretense of "finding someone worthy of my gift." I've never heard of a Dominant looking for a submissive to give his/her gift of domination to. And good Dominants are just as hard to find as good submissives. Besides, once a gift is given it belongs to the receiver & can't be taken back!

slave & sub: definitions

This is one of the eternal questions isn't it? I have been in the lifestyle for 33 years & I've met & known literally thousands of people who practice bdsm & D/s in real life. The following is a general consensus in what we believe. A slave is property & has no rights or free will unless given to them by their Owner. This may seem a rather limited & strict definition, but an accurate one. A sub has choices: To choose who, what, where & when to submit. The sub does have free will, plain & simple. I'm sure some will protest saying they are a slave but they have rights regardless. But in reality they are a sub. You merely have a romanticized & naive belief that you are a slave. There is nothing wrong with being a sub or a slave for that matter. Just be accurate!

Lifestyle vs. Sexual

Let's face it, people in the bdsm community fall into 2 categories: Sexual & life stylists. To what degree is a personal choice, but it is a person's own decision. I am amazed at many of the members' intolerance for those in the other camp. We are supposed to be among the most accepting of groups, yet I constantly see people in one group sniping at those in the other. Lifestyle vs sexual!! We have enough battles as it is without fighting each other.
