I'm posting this to myself more than anything. I'm going to stop communicating with people on this site and stop the never-ending grind for 'points' to use on IM.
I don't think there's anything wrong with this site, but there's something wrong with me. It was a porn addiction that drove me to this site years ago. It felt like a more interactive version of pornography. There was a time when I was truly invested in finding a real-life partner and I was lucky enough to meet up with two female members over the years and communicate regularly with others
but...
I was discarded after a few play sessions and every online acquaintance showed no desire to meet up. Eventually, I stopped seeing members as real people and started seeing them as a means to an end, the end being an orgasm. I can imagine that a lot of female members (who make up the minority of members) might be getting some long-awaited relief from the swarm of messages (many of which were time wasting or just straight-up offensive) that plagued their IM inboxes for years....
All thanks to the outrageous costs for non-members to send messages now. While 12p a message might seem like nothing to the female members whose IM inboxes are bursting before the chatbox has even loaded, for those genuine male members who pass by unnoticed in the crowd of dick pics and unhappy husbands, this feels like plain extortion.
To put it simply, I'm not the prettiest male on the site but probably not the ugliest; as an average joe sub, I receive 1 reply for every 30 messages I put out there on IM. Yes, I'm polite; yes, I try to be original and interesting; yes, I only message members with whom I believe I'm compatible otherwise what's the point?
So after some elementary maths, we can gather that it now costs me around £3.60 for each reply that I just might get. Before you say 'then get the membership and shut up', I was a paying gold member for over 3 years and after receiving 1 reply for every 30 messages and only meeting one person from the site face to face in that length of time, who in their right mind would continue paying?
So I leave you with this question, is the site worth paying for or should they remodel and increase their advertising before another opportunist web designer takes advantage of these raising prices?
