All Natural Teeth Whitening - The Key to a Whiter Brighter Smile!

I thought the obsession with brighter whiter teeth was fairly recent in history until I discovered this poem by the famous ancient Roman Poet Catullus which depicts the practice of teeth whitening with urine by the Gauls. I could see the marketing campaign if we brought this back –

Free 100% all natural organic whitener!

It’s the best argument I’ve ever come across for selling the idea of watersports to someone who frowns on the idea!

Your Teeth! : to Egnatius

Egnatius, because he has snow-white teeth,
smiles all the time. If you’re a defendant
in court, when the counsel draws tears,
he smiles: if you’re in grief at the pyre
of pious sons, the lone lorn mother weeping,
he smiles. Whatever it is, wherever it is,
whatever he’s doing, he smiles: he’s got a disease,
neither polite, I would say, nor charming.
So a reminder to you, from me, good Egnatius.
If you were a Sabine or Tiburtine
or a fat Umbrian, or plump Etruscan,
or dark toothy Lanuvian, or from north of the Po,
and I’ll mention my own Veronese too,
or whoever else clean their teeth religiously,
I’d still not want you to smile all the time:
there’s nothing more foolish than foolishly smiling.
Now you’re Spanish: in the country of Spain
what each man pisses, he’s used to brushing
his teeth and red gums with, every morning,
so the fact that your teeth are so polished
just shows you’re the more full of piss.

IM, Voice Chat and Webcam Dating Tips

Many of us consider those far beyond our immediate area for potential partners. This means meeting fairly quickly is not practical so we have to accept electronic communication as our only way to interact in order to see what develops.

The discussion about voice chat versus IM in yesterday’s thread brought up the point of comfort sometimes being a factor in people shying away from speaking and I thought I’d share some ideas I’ve found extremely successful in helping crossover from written correspondence to voice and webcam interaction quickly in a fun and relaxing way.

1. Play games – The two main IM services have games such as checkers, pool, etc. so you can say Hello and get to know each other with less pressure to converse by getting on voice chat/cam and playing a game together. It’s almost sure to bring a few laughs if you’re a good sport. It’s not about skill; it’s about fun! Of course, there are other games as well, but if you’re playing those, I’m thinking you’re probably not so shy and needing to ease into conversation at that point!

2. Go surfing together – It can be a lot of fun to wander around Alt or the internet in general. You’ll get to share favorite places to visit, various interests and talk and/or laugh about the things you see!

3. Take a trip – If you download Google Earth or use Yahoo Maps, you can take a trip together telling the other person how to navigate to your favorite spots or your hometown etc. This can be so fun to share your knowledge of a particular place or show them some points of interest in your area. You can take them on a trip as well as send images you find to show detail, for instance, I can send great photos from my city if I’m taking them on a tour of Chicago. Whether, you both decide to have lunch in a Paris Café, Pasta in Piza, teriyaki in Tokyo or take a walk on a nice beach somewhere it’s bound to be a fun way to relax!

4. Watch a movie together – If you both have or rent the same dvd, it’s amazing how closely you can get the timing and actually watch the movie together just checking in with each other to make sure you’re in sync. One way to do it is to both use headphones so the sound tracks don’t conflict. You can talk if you both enjoy this during movies. Of course, talking is unnecessary and you can enjoy just the sense of being together.

5. Have dinner together – Alright, this one’s more of a challenge. Seriously though, just whipping up a little snack in the kitchen and bringing it out for your new friend to view is not such a bad second to dining together. It’s the thought that counts.

6. Get naked – I knew you thought of this one first so I only mention it to show you where your mind is at! I don't think you would've read one through five if you're already doing this. So perverted, you should be punished for the thought. I'm going to get my paddle right now! LOL

The point is just to find ways to be together where you don’t feel you have to converse every second while you grow more comfortable being with the person. Relax and have fun with it. The only limit is your imagination!

Please add some of your own ideas if you like or share your feelings or experiences about this too.

An Inquiry - Why are we still sending so many instant messages?

Ever since the advent of voice chat, I've found myself a bit puzzled at the continuing popularity of instant messenging considering even the best typists can't type at the average rate of speaking, over 150 words per minute.

Anyone who knows me is well aware of my appreciation for the written word but for the purposes of extended communication, the only advantage I can see to sending instant messages is the ability to have multiple conversations and multitask in other ways. Other than that, I'm beginning to think many are doing it out of habit but I honestly don't know.

If I'm chatting with someone in IM, I do not engage others in conversation so my preference is for voice chat yet it seems many women do not embrace it from my experience and my curiosity has motivated an inquiry to all of you in order to understand women better.

What are your feelings about email and instant messaging versus voice chat?

The Change of Seasons

I was cycling earlier today and it was clear the summer is vanishing quickly giving way to fall. It seems so many people love autumn. I'm a summer person; I adore the sun and all the delights associated with summertime. I appreciate the fall colors and love the spirit of the holidays but I'll always be a summer person at heart. Au revoir summer !

Here's a great poem to put us all in the autumnal spirit considering the equinox is just a few days from now:

The Wild Swans At Coole

William Butler Yeats

The trees are in their autumn beauty,
The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
Are nine-and-fifty Swans.
The nineteenth autumn has come upon me
Since I first made my count;
I saw, before I had well finished,
All suddenly mount
And scatter wheeling in great broken rings
Upon their clamorous wings.
I have looked upon those brilliant creatures,
And now my heart is sore.
All's changed since I, hearing at twilight,
The first time on this shore,
The bell-beat of their wings above my head,
Trod with a lighter tread.
Unwearied still, lover by lover,
They paddle in the cold
Companionable streams or climb the air;
Their hearts have not grown old;
Passion or conquest, wander where they will,
Attend upon them still.
But now they drift on the still water,
Mysterious, beautiful;
Among what rushes will they build,
By what lake's edge or pool
Delight men's eyes when I awake some day
To find they have flown away?

While thinking about the discussion in my post yesterday about having passion for your work, I thought I’d share the relationship of it to both the All Jazzed Up post and the jazzy poem in between the two.

I maintained a successful career as a performing musician for many years playing the piano and keyboards, everything from classical to jazz, rock and even some country. My love for music is unrelenting; it was bred into me by my father who played the saxophone as well as it can be played so music was in my blood.

My passion for performing was immediately apparent to any musicians or members of the vast audience I played for in every imaginable venue. I poured my heart out musically night and day and as the poem suggested, I was deeply involved with someone for seven of those years who in truth was easier to love than me because she was always supportive of my music the only exception being it kept us from going out together so often. She was such a good sport though coming to hear me or waiting up for me a great many nights when I finished unless I was out of town.

While performing, rehearsing or practicing, I was totally immersed in what I did but when I stopped, she had my undivided attention. I finally grew weary of the lifestyle and changed careers. I can’t pretend I love what I’m doing now the same way I love music but I do it like I do everything, with intensity and passion because I can’t do things any other way!

People who really love their work

I was walking around my neighborhood earlier today running errands, the weather being a bit cool but a perfectly sunny day when I saw Pedro leaving work, the man who I always bring my bicycle to because he loves bicycles and he’s so good at what he does.

I immediately sensed the love and pride he has for his work and not only that, but Pedro is a really nice person. No matter how busy he might be at work, he’ll come over and look the bike over often fixing something right on the spot because it would bother him to see me ride off knowing something’s not right.

When I see people who love what they do and really care, it makes my day.

i was listenin to the smoky cool riffs
just taking me back to the hours and
endless miles I traveled from low A
to the high Cs sometimes hovering
in the tenor register or descending
into that Tristano tessitura, lingering in
the darkness of Subconscious - Lee
knowing the whole evening was a
Prelude to a Kiss wondering What Is
This Thing Called Love while Walkin
through the blues or hostin another
jam session at the Blue Note where
the flatted fifth reigned supreme compin
for a hundred choruses of Blue Bossa
or Solar leaving Footprints, fingerprints
or blowin through Someday My Prince
for Miles and miles of notes beboppin
through a samba of bliss hopin she’d
show or still be awake when I got there
after the final turnarounds of Round Midnight

When all was said and done, she had to admit
that just like Cole Porter,
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I was
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Easy To Love

The Incredible Bulk in my bulk folder - Perfectly fine email misdirected again!

If you have email in your bulk folder, the possibility exists there's absolutely nothing contained within it which violates their terms of service.

This has happened to me for the fifth time now. The only way to find out is to contact them and have them manually review the email. If it conforms with their guidelines, they will resend it to your inbox.

I've also received email which was fine only to discover a few days afterward another part of their system came through and mistakenly decided it was in violation so it was sent to my bulk folder after the fact! This has happened to me twice over the last three months.

I've registered my complaint and for the first time, someone there acknowledged a problem with their system.

I'm thinking if they have to spend so much time reviewing all our bulk folder email manually, they may come to terms with the fact they need to rewrite their filtering programs so this problem is resolved and our communication is not hampered. Well, that's my hope anyway.

Who said Burning Water is a Bad Thing?

For those of you who’ve said you could burn water, you’ll be happy to know scientists have discovered it was probably because you had the radio on really loud!

It turns out according to the news that salt water (subjected to specific radio waves) burns and may be a possible fuel source for the future so there really is a silver lining to that cloud of water vapors!
